Your doctor can't actually tell you for sure what your having unless he does an amniocentesis test. This is when he would stick a long needle into your belly button and withdraw amniotic fluid. The test is usually for testing for genetic abnormalities that could cause birth defects but gives a sure reading of what sex the baby is. Everyone else is basically guessing from the ultrasound because legs, arms, and umbilical cords have been mistaken for penises. If you feel you just have to buy stuff stick to neutral colors like yellows, mint greens, and reds (and of course white). In all actuality it doesn't make sense to buy a lot of clothing because 1) newborns are usually in sleepers or onsies most of the time and 2) the grow out of the 0-3, 3-6, and 6-9 months stuff so fast. Trust me, you can never be sure without proper testing. The doctor and the ultrasound techs told my sister up until the day she gave birth that she was having a boy with her second pregnancy. Today she has three beautiful daughters.

I have to laugh at a lot of these answers. Doctors are NEVER 100% sure what the sex of a baby is, that's probably why he said not to take the tags off anything. My doctor never could tel what my children were, and he wasn't some crappy doctor either. I think a doctor that has had his practice for 30 years knows what he's doing. Just be patient. It's much better when it's a surprise anyway.

sounds like ur doctor is a quack and u need to get a new one thay can tell u now if its a boy or girl i was like 23 weeks when thay told me that i was having a boy..

easy way to know if its a boy or girl is the old time ways
if the baby sits high its a girl
if the baby sits low its a boy

if the baby has a low heart rate its a girl
if the baby has a fast heart rate its a boy

and trust me that way is normal right it was right for me twice
both my boys had a fast heart rate and sat low.. by then hint u should be able to figure out if its a boy or girl and get some stuff that way just dont take tages off in case ur wrong. or buy things that are mutual as in could be for a boy or girl so...

the genital area is pretty swollen from hormones and shadows and whatever make it impossible to 100% guarantee also your baby can have body parts blocking privates so, they cannot tell, buy white, yellow, and green, and blue clothes, girls can wear any colors and dresses are very uneccessary at this point you need those gowns that look like sweetpea from popeye wore that tie on the bottom and plenty of t shirts baby eats alot especially if breast feeding and needs a little time before starts eating at longer intervals, you will be changing spit up clothes and at least 12 pampers a day for the first couple months and all those outfits that are gender specific are not really needed until about 3 to 4 months your baby should not be in public with all those germy people and no one should kiss your babies face, wiil cause rash, and need to wash hands before touching baby and most pediatricians advise to keep babies exposure to public to a minimum during the first two months to allow the immune system to develop, no cute clothes needed to impress anyone, your baby will be cute ,clothed or not

They usually use the date of the last cycle to calculate. Below is a link to a pretty neat pregnancy due date calculator from the Medical College of Wisconsin that shows how they do it. For example, if the date of the last cycle was around 5/23, then conception is estimated to have occurred around 6/6, and the estimated due date is calculated to be around 2/27. Use this as a guideline or estimate only. The baby is the best judge of things, and as you probably know, he or she can prove them wrong by 2 weeks or more!

No doctor will tell you they are 100% sure of the baby's sex. That just opens them up for a lawsuit. If you are unsure, call and ask him again, or request another sonogram. Make sure he knows that you don't want him to joke around with you. And look at the sono pictures. If it's a boy, you can usually tell.

Some people just have a weird sense of humor. If you are typing it exactly how he said it I would say, good chances, that he thinks it is a boy. The whole "don't take the tags off" was a semi-joke... b/c with pregnacy anything is possible. A lot of people think they are having one thing and end up with another.

He can't really tell what the baby is, is why he can't put money on it and tells you not to take the tags of things just yet. The baby could have his/her legs crossed or laying the wrong way or anything. Buy yellows and greens..etc...things that both could wear. Congrats on the baby!! Best Wishes!!

you need to find another doctor. They can tell the sex of the baby at around 21 weeks gestation. Callyour insurance company or ask friends about their ob/gyn and go to them.

This doctor sounds like an idiot.

how do you think your doctor magiacally knows anyway? a ultersound at 18 to 20 weeks is a good way o tell, but, they can't always see well enough to tell. I'm only 16 weeks we buy clothes for boys or girls in case they can't tell at 18 weeks when weget a scan. If you had no ultersound or they could not tell then your doctors thoughts would be only a guess anyway.
