To "put off" one thing you have to "put on" another. Develop a new healthy habit. Also, when I am trying to break a habit, I keep a rubber band around my wrist. Everytime I start to engage in the bad habit again, I snap the rubber band hard.

Hi try nail bite stuff, but you have to put it on and take it of everyday as it wears off quick, other than that i dont think there is anything else you can do, you could try hynotysm or something like that, Only you can stop yourself from biting your own nails

Do your nails feel vulnerable if you let them grow? Maybe the thought of getting them caught and pulled off is the compulsion, add to that the mess that clippers and scissors can make.

You could also take up biting other people's nails, bit-and-run sort of or get a job as a night nurse. Or pay people to let you bite them and the cash spent will make you think more (or go back to your own).

Nothing really helps. I bit my nails for 40 years and stopped when I took a vacation to Thailand. No stress- no nail biting.

I've heard about this nail polish that has hot peppers mixed in it, so if you bite your nails you can taste the peppers. Copy the address below, it will show you different nail biting nail polishes.

The only way I managed to stop biting my nails was to have acrylic/gel nails. They look so nice I dont want to bite them any more. I am cured.

Either get acrylic nails for a while to break you of the habit or get some habenero (not sure of spelling) peppers from the grocery store crush them up and keep dipping your fingers in them through out the day. That is one of the hotest peppers ever your mouth (or eyes if you get it in there) will never forgive you.

Take scrapings from under your fingernails and put them under a microscope. Look at all the crawly things moving around. That is what you are ingesting when you bite your nails. ugh.
