It is a shape of stars in the sky that we associate with the word Virgo.

Astrology is the belief that the positions of the stars and planets will predict and control our personalities and actions. Unfortunately, a distressing number of people believe this and the daily horoscope can be found in nearly every major newspaper in the country. However, astrology fails even the most simple of test.

This is possibly the worst offender of all the pseudosciences because it does more damage in encouraging people to believe there is an easy solution to life’s problems than any other pseudoscience. More people believe in astrology than any other myth. Yes, myth. It is very easy to prove there is nothing to astrology, and is frequently done so in grade school science fairs. Simply get a group of people to compare their day to day lives to their horoscope and keep a track of how valid the predictions are. Make an estimate ahead of time of what you expect to see for an accuracy rate. Do this for a few weeks. When you collect all of the records and compile the data, compare the actual accuracy rate to your predicted one.

If that’s not enough, simply do the math. According to astrology, my horoscope should predict many things about me and my life. But approximately 1/12th of the population has the same sign, and therefore the same horoscope, as I. So, if astrology is correct, 1/12th of the population should be very similar to me. This same argument applies to anyone. Ask yourself, are one in twelve people you meet similar to you? This is obviously false. You’ll meet some people similar to you, but not one in twelve.

An interesting note about astrology is that it is in the wrong sign. The basis for astrology is the constellations from 3000 years ago. However, the Earth's axis is slowly rotating in the sky, a process called precession. This precessiong causes the constellations to rotate through the sky once every 36,000 years. This means that in the 3000 years since the constellations were defined they have shifted forwards about 1/12 of the way around. This makes the astrologers off by almost one full sign. So, if you think you're a Virgo, you're really a Leo; if you thing you're a Taurus, you're really an Aries; and if you think your a Scorpius, you're really a Libra. And, in fact, the Sun will spend only a few days in the constellation Sagittarius before moving into a constellation that isn't even in the zodiac. This error would have tremendous importance if astrology had any validity.

Astronomy is a science and follows the scientific method. Astrology is a superstition and is no more accurate that saying a black cat crossing your path will bring bad luck.

Virgos are very stable beings. They are workaholics, they can never get enough. They expect everything and everyone to be perfect. Virgos are neat freaks, and are extremely meticulous. Also Virgos are very confident, and are not afraid to show it. They believe in justice, a lot of Virgos like to work in the criminal justice, law enforcement, security fields. Virgos serve more as the parent role, and expect nothing but the best from people. Also when you talk to a Virgo, they will talk about themselves a lot. Virgo women have an obsession with being in a relationship, and they always talk about that when they are single. Being in a relationship makes them feel whole, even if they're with someone they're not really into

Quickie:
Things are slowing down, which is a good thing ... you need time to reflect on life.

Overview:
Your social life has been almost spookily serene, and you actually find yourself craving some drama. Not to worry -- both your work and love lives heat up in some rather unexpected and lovely ways.

On the 1st, things are looking very, very (very, very) promising, romantically speaking. Yep, you have your eye on somebody, and they have their eye right back on you. This could well be the beginning of something very, very (very, very) exciting. On the 5th, you two could be in the right place at the right time. Or that could happen on the 6th. Or, really, it could happen any time (or several times) this month -- you two are just that compatible. On the 10th, you might want to take over the steering wheel of love for a little while -- you, after all, know just where you're headed. On the 16th, you get from point A to point L-O-V-E in no time flat. Great! By the 21st, you should know, more or less, where this is heading (and you might want to ask them what they think, too). On the 26th, you see a problem and deal with it. By the 30th, it's clear that you've gotten a new spike in romantic energy.

Virgo

You've been carrying a secret around for some time now -- maybe even for months. It wasn't terribly oppressive to start with, but as the New Year begins, one of your resolutions will likely be to start fresh and let go of all emotional baggage, once and for all. Get it all out in the open by mid-January. At that point, an ex is extremely likely to call or email -- and not just to see how the cat's doing either. If you're attached now, you can expect to finally be able to make friends with that ex, even if just about everyone would have sworn it couldn't be done.

After all the clearing out you'll accomplish in early 2006, you'll be ready, willing and able to move on to more pleasant matters -- and more exciting ones too. Around mid-March, a lunar eclipse in your own sign will bring about a really big change in your love life. Not to worry: Given everything else that's on your astrological agenda, it can't help but be positive! In fact, no matter what you initiate at that time, you can expect it to bear fruit around the solar eclipse in late September. Oh, and if you're thinking about making some physical changes, plan to start a new diet or exercise program around either of those eclipses. These supercharged meetings of the Sun and Moon are famous for passing out energy, confidence and mega-determination. Invest that energy wisely, and you're pretty much guaranteed total and complete success -- mainly because you just won't stand for anything less.

When it comes to finances, things are looking good this year. Really good. Last year brought you luck and opportunities in that department, and you likely took advantage of it all. Of course, it took lots of hard work to make things happen -- but then, you've never been lazy, have you? As practical as you are, no one needed to remind you to stash a bit of last year's 'luck' away either. Now (with the possible exception of September and October, when you may be more prone to impulse-spending than usual) you can relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor. So if you want to go a bit overboard -- just a bit! -- or if there's someone in your life you'd really love to spoil, you won't have to worry about the bills this time around. Have a great year --you've certainly earned it all.

Your mission in life is to help others, whether you're working on a group project or serving customers at an after-school job. Sure, people accuse you of being a "perfectionist" (or, at times, "obsessive"), but without your attention to detail, the world would be much worse off! Your impulse to keep everything in order pushes you into unusual activities, like color-coding your closet and cataloging your CD collection, but (as much as they may tease you about it!) your friends and loved ones would be lost without your organizational skills.

With health as a major fixation, you'd make a fantastic personal trainer or doctor. Or, you could apply your critical eye to words and numbers as an editor or accountant. Your nurturing skills would also make you succeed in a job involving small animals, plants, or the environment.

Your desire to care for others will dominate your relationships. Find a guy who's willing to take suggestions and follow your lead when it comes to matters of organization. You make instant friendships with other practical people, but you could lose your patience with overly-dramatic types

Virgos love to go shopping. On the down side they can be fuss budgets because they are perfectionists. My mother, son and daughter are virgos and they are very particular people! They are loyal friends forever.
