thats what they are primarily used for acctually. They started off in the late 1950s as a way for russia to take control of human minds and place them in a vegetable like state of being, once the soap is over the mind is left scrammbled and all that can be made out is the dramatic images from the show so then begin to fill their lives with the same drama. It worked just as planed and now thousands if not millions of americans are being brainwashed into dramatic lives to busy to care about whats really important.

All mass media can be used as brainwashing tools, but it depends about what theory of communication you are talking about. Perhaps, soap operas can be used as a way for enterteining or even educate people. It all depends on tv producers, commercial interests, and how goverment uses it.

I am one of the lamers you guys are talking about....you know...the soap junkie? I am so addicted that I tune in everyday. I try to schedule my life around it. If I happen to be out and miss them my mom fills me in because she records them. I also buy the soap digest magazines and belong to several online message boards. I can't help it....they just sucked me right in! I update my hubby every day when he gets home too. When he was working a night shift job he was just as addicted to them as me. Now that he's day light he misses them. When he and I were out during the day before the job switch we would go to the electronics department in the store so we could watch them and still get some errands done! Hahahahaha! Pathetic? Yes. But hey...it's just me. Take care and I hope you have an amazing day!

All TV is some kind of brainwashing. Just watch how different new items are presented. Look at the obsessed way people monitor what is going on in Hollywood . . .

Maybe depends on how you look at them. I know my mother- in law learned how to speak English from soap operas, but she also thought that all American girls acted like they do on soaps.

I don't know, but I think it brainwashes my sister in law into thinking she can sit on her butt all day and watch them and not lift a finger to be a mom and a wife.
(Just the perfect question for me to vent my rage for her lack of motivation)
