(if you are on a computer running windows XP)
I would do the following, in this order:
-Check how much RAM you've got, if you've got less than 512 kb, then buy more.
-Install a good antivirus, and a good antispam.
-Clean out your cookies and your temporary internet files folder
-Run a disk defragmentation
-Go to start, run, type msconfig, then go to startup tab and deselect all items. Windows will usually readd all necessary and essential components by itself.
That should take care of your problem.

What you have is spyware or a virus.
You need to go and download ad-aware se personal. Search for ad-aware from any search engine and you should find it. Then just run it every once in a while to make your computer run faster. It is completely free as long as it isn't used for something like a company.

Check for spyware or ad-ware. Download the free "ad-aware" personal version from lavasoft of some other anti-spyware.
Try using the disk de-fragmenter. This should come as standard from programs>accesories>system tools menu.
Otherwise, find someone who can help.

Go to the start menu, click Run, type in msconfig, click on the start up tab (the tab to the far right) and uncheck most of the check boxes. Don't worry if you uncheck things you need. You can always go back and check them again. ( Things like your anti virus should stay check marked) Good luck.

Mine was doing that earlier, and I noticed it was really hot, so I put it on top of this giant insectoid that I made, so it could get a bit of cooler air circulating under it, and it sped right up after about five minutes. You don't have to use a giant metal insectoid, but you ought to try cooling it down!

I recommend running a virus scan and a spy ware scan. If you don't have any anti-virus or anti-spy ware programs I recommend AVG and Ad-Aware.
AVG is a free anti-virus program that is constantly updated. Ad-Aware is a free anti-spy ware program, that is also updated regularly.
Hope this clears up your problem.
