Because it is primarily a man's thing. It is about selfishness and the almighty p****. Imagine if women gained sexual pleasure from, say, hanging out the laundry. No, that won't work. It does not sexually degrade men. I don't know what would except something violent like male on male rape, but then gays would get blamed for that and my mind does not want to think about the violence of rape. Nothing changes til we teach our boys to respect women. If you think it's healthy, you are BLIND. Do some research and learn how the women in these movies are treated, drugged, violated. It is just part of your fantasy to believe they are all enjoying and making a living from porn.

Your answer is filled with a borderline painful amount of ignorance.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people don't have a right to. To say that all pornography degrades women is just blatantly wrong. The closest comparison I could make is saying all meat comes from cows. It's just simply not the case.
Some use it in a healthy context with their partner. Others use it as a way to satisfy itches that they can't otherwise scratch. Still more use it as a healthy means of stimulation for self-pleasure. Certainly much safer and without the risk of disease or unwanted pregnancy.
At the end of the day you have to look at yourself and understand why it is that you're pontificating what you're preaching. Why do you hate it so much? Are you perhaps feeling inadequate, or for some reason threatened by pornography? Why would you be?

Well i don't mind pornography as long as it's not children or animals those who force that should be dealt with in the harshest possible way.
In answer to your question porn is more acceptable in todays society because society is more relaxed today than it was say 20 years ago, people are more open minded to change and not just in the porn industry but in tolerence towards other races and cultures, towards drugs and prostetution as well
Don't get me wrong,I do see your point of view and you are entitled to it but others will say "i want porn" and the massess will get it because so much money is made from it and the government and the media and the people of the adult industry will say "if you don't want to see it then just switch off the t.v.",a bit shallow granted but sometimes these things happen in life.
Celebrating porn is a strong statement to say but i reckon that it does do some good because if you go to scandanavian countries where porn is a natural part of life(mainstream television) and sex education is taught at a very early age, statistically these countries have the lowest rate of teenage pregnancies in the world - food for thought

It has been made acceptable so it can be sold more, and the demand is more than can be coped with by people who don't want it there. Ways of keeping people silly are part of it now, and when these weren't there I think it was feared people would become 'too free'. Going on popular statements that is. Most will be sold and used with no effects other than making people want more - it has a place in consumerism.
If relationships were more positive than they are then porn would not be drooled over like it is. Low social development and bad relationships ('attitude' etc) have a place in consumerism, whereas self motivation and intelligence do not. It's part of 'dumbing down'.
Maybe another reason is that too many people were made to feel bad about sex, and some of these went on to be sex offenders or comitted sex-linked murder. The only answer could have been to remove the long-term hate of originally innocent people.

It allows them to feel they have access to someone or something which is otherwise inaccessible. People who promote this are in some sort of competition to be the most bizarre, titilating, provocative. They like to take everything up a notch. I don't think most care about or think about consequences. And because there's such a profitable market for this, they have motive. Once they have motive, it is in their best interest to create a customer base. They do this by convincing people they need their product, that it is either what everyone wants or that it's a good substitute for what everyone wants, that it's safe, that there's more to it than its' detractors say, and last, but not least, that they have a right to it. There's definitely a difference between free speech and porn. Free speech specifically refers to the right to have and speak your political opinions. Provocative photos of a sexual nature are not political and not subject to the right to free speech.

I think my mother or sister can make their own decisions, and I don't have a daughter yet, but I'd say the same for her.
Porn dosn't exploit women any more than it exploits men. Women watch porn too. *raises her hand* It's healthy, as long as that isn't ALL you do. I agree that it shouldn't be allowed to involve children, either in it or looking at it, at all, but it's not evil. Women arn't forced into doing porn, they're there because they want to be. I remember reading an article where someone asked a porn star if she ever felt exploited and she replied "Exploited? I'm not exploited. Now those guys all wanking over me, they're the ones being exploited."

Pornography does not degrade women, because most of those who are involved do so by choice and get paid a lot of money. A certain percentage of those even profess to enjoy it. Climb down off your throne of self-righteousness and join the rest of us in reality.

Because the legal definition of pronography is hard to pin down and whenever people see fit to bend the law to the point of breaking, this is one of those laws that gets exploited, as well as supported, by people looking to get a quick erotica fix.
It's sad, because the human body is a beautiful thing and sexual expression between people who love each other is great, but it seems as though as a society, we can't get enough of what is going on in other people's bedrooms, and then seek to avert our eyes when it compounds other ailments in our fellow man.

Well we are the only culture that defines pornography the way we do. Most other cultures nudity is nothing it is just a way of life. You should visit some other countries watch there television programing, look at there advertisements and visit there beaches. To them nudity isn't all about sex. Nudity is what it is. It is just us nasty Americans that twist it all around like we do most things.

pornography is not acceptable to every one
Do you realize that every time you click a link to an adult web site;
1. You are helping to promote human trafficking.
2. You give pornographers another reason to kidnap and rape another innocent human being.
3. You are putting an innocent life in danger.
4. You are condemning some woman to eternal damnation.
5. You contribute to slavery, drug abuse, and the promotion of every evil and vile thing.
When you click that link, you are just as guilty of these evil crimes as the men that kidnap and rape innocent children.
