You can upload your document to the Adobe website and they will email it back to you as a PDF. When you register on their site, they will do up to 5 files for free.
There are also some free and shareware PDF converters that you can download at www.download.com

Use Macromedia FlashPaper. Once install, open the document (say Word document), you'll find a new icon on the toolbar. Click on that icon to convert the document into pdf

Just do a google search for:
convert pdf
You should probably also add the type of file you want to convert to your search as well.
From a quick google search I came up with http://www.pdfonline.com/, which will convert any of the following types for free: doc, ppt, xls, rtf, pps, html, txt, pub, jpg, gif, tiff, bmp, png, emf, wmf.
Also, I know that if you are using wordperfect you can just save as a pdf rather than wpd.

You can by Adobe Acrobat, or you can get their monthly service. There are a couple places out there that do a file conversion, but I don't remember the one I've used.

CutePDF - It's brilliant!
Download CutePDF Writer and it acts like a virtual printer that saves files to a PDF.
Just search it in Google or Y! Search. - CutePDF
There is possibly a pay program there as well, don't download it. It will become clear.
