To me and IMHO this seems the perfect way to steal one's identity and i won't ever use it even tho its my option to do so, I just don't understand why when theft is everywhere.

I have a blog and I just don't give any personal information on it at all. You just have to be careful what you put on it.

But with identity theft it isn't a matter of if it will happen to you, it is more of a matter of when. It is the fastest growing crime in the US. A year ago I didn't know anyone who had been the victim of ID Theft, today I know 4.

I think it is important to protect yourself no matter how careful you are.

I suggest this service for protection. You get a credit report to see if it has happened.

You get credit monitoring to let you know if it happens. This way you know right away if it happens so you can minimize your loss.

But the best part is if it happens to you you are assigned a licensed investigator to handle every aspect of the Restoration!

The FTC says it can take 600 hours and thousands of dollars to correct the problems.

It is horrible to fix.

No, why would they be thinking about it? They're only interested in themselves. I don't know that it's so easy - it used to be easier, but since 9/11, everything has tightened up and people are more careful about giving out information and are also checking their credit reports more often, or have signed up with identity protection services. I'm sure identity theft is still rampant but not as easy as it once was. People have bad credit, so they steal credit card information - but now many places won't ship things to a different address than is on the card, or won't send things to post office boxes.

Take a look at my "your Identity" blog on yahoo 360. It will give you some more info you may or may not be aware of in regards to your identity. Realistically if someone wants to steal your identity they don't need YOU to provide anything. Granted it does make it easier, but with the way that things work being protecive and defensive is only going to do so much good. It is better to be active about protecting you ID....

Identity theft is more than just stealing a screen name and/or email address...which are both changeable anyway. Blogging no more encourages identity theft than any other form of online posting. Everyone should be aware of this form of abuse, of that I woud agree.
