but heres the real reason
Some might say, simply, "because they kick the football."

But the real story is deeper. The origin of American football is in the history of the world's most popular sport: soccer. When soccer -- more universaly known as "football" (which of course makes sense because soccer players use their feet) -- participants decided to change their centuries-old game with restrictions such as the no-use of hand rules, people who disliked this broke away to create rugby. In the states we have created our own version of the game under the same old name "football" with more of a rugby style, the whole time forgetting why we call it that.

THE EDUCATION OF THE WORLD CONTINUES, ONE MORON AT A TIME: American football was established before soccer was. A British man wanted to call it soccer so as to be different. The American game of football began with a great emphasis on kicking the ball. Hence, the name football came to be. I don't know why America gets dumped on because of our originality. You probably can't remember what side of the bed you got out of this morning. wow first learn to spell and contruct basic grammer. Second dont be talking **** about football, its much better than rugby for a number of reasons, first, we are smart enough to protect ourselves by wearing pads not running around having a 2 year carrer like you faggots do. Second, it takes mental skill such as remembering the playbook as gameplay mentallity. Rugby, there are no set plays, you don't need to practice, all you need to do is just run and dive. Anyways, it was because teams usually won by field goals which involved kicking the ball.

Because it evolved from your football. Every American kid plays your type of football, then when they reach the age of reason, they move over to a more sophisticated game. Your football is just considered a stepping stone for little kids and thus considered part of the preparation to play a real game.

OK there is Association football, Rugby Football and Gridiron Football . Over the years Association foot ball became Soccer and gridiron football just became football and Rugby football just became Rugby. Its all linguists same reason the in the US we call it a trunk and in England they call it a boot.

I agree instead of football they should call it Ape Ball.

Anybody can play that game, all you have to do is dress monkeys and gorrillas with helmets and shoulder pads and have them fight over a ball, that is why I suggest replace the ball with a banana you know they will fight over that.
