What most non-wrestling fans don't seem to realize (like some of the respondents above) is that ANYONE WHO'S A WRESTLING FAN (and isn't, like, eight years old) KNOWS THAT IT ISN'T REAL--the outcomes are pre-decided, the performers are playing characters, and the matches are planned in advace. You don't think that Ross and Rachel on Friends are actual people, do you? Same thing. Wrestling fans appreciate the genre on multiple levels--the storylines (whether they get "into" it or not), the physical abilities of the wrestlers (because, really, the trick is to make a move look like it hurts but is actually within their opponent's threshold of pain or injury--and, yes, some of the physical stuff is as real as it gets), their ability to get the right reaction from the audience--"heat" if they're "heels" (bad guys), "getting over" if they're "babyfaces" (good guys). It's like stage magic, or the circus--it's a multilayered craft that can be appreciated in different ways at the same time--wrestling fans tend to follow closely both the "work" aspect of the show (the fictional storylines) and the "shoot" (the real behind-the-scenes machinations--people being sidelined because of injuries, firings, disagreements between the wrestlers and the show's writers) in a more involved way than we do, say, follow the personal lives of most of the actors on our favorite TV shows. In a way, this makes wrestling fandom--with its ability to be entertained by both the "fake" and the "real"--a far more *sophisticated* and *complex* audience than most.

a male soap opera is a good way of putting, because the stories and acting are as bad as normal soap operas

There's real danger as far as messing up really bad and injuring themselves. There's real practice since no one can just go in a ring and completly ad-lib it(I think I spelled it right). And there are some people who really hate each other but have to attempt to put their personal problems aside or they're out of a job. But it's not completely real, as this is staged and scripted before showtime. The promotions just want to make sure their fans leave happy and wanting them to continue supporting them. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

it is blended Martial Arts that is genuine and that is a actuality, they have rules and rounds a lifeless ringer for boxing.search for it on the information superhighway and also you'll see. because of the particular shown actuality that it is genuine it is fan base has gotten so large that it is were given WWE in a submission and it is WWE's acceptable rival(besides the actuality that it isn't any longer wrestling). adult adult males like Undertaker and The Rock are followers of UFC.

Thats the point, its called WWE...E is for entertainment. Almost all people I know who watch it know that its set up but it does take training in order to be able to execute those moves without hurting the other guy too bad.

I don't think they believe it's real. I think they just really get into the show they are putting on. They even call themselves WWE(World Wresling Entertainment).

Because they are clueless. LOL. Just kidding, but people don't seem to understand that if wrestling was real, the PRO-wrestlers would all be dead.
