hey, don't worry. Once those babies are off, you will have a great smile. Just don't think about it too much. Smile and be confident in it. You're a kid! Enjoy this time!

I know it's hard to see now but as everyone else is saying your smile will be great when you get the braces off and I'm sure it's pretty good now. I didn't get braces when I was younger and now every day I wish that I had put up with the insecurities of having them when I was younger so that I would have straighter teeth for every day for the rest of my life. As far as what to use to make your teeth look whiter the best thing to do is to ask your dentist what a good product is for that. Whenever you have a problem or question like that it's best to go to the experts and your dentist will be able to tell you which products will work well with your braces. Good luck and taking care of having the braces now ensures that your future is bright teeth wise so feel good about yourself.

There are actually clear braces that are available for only a negligibly higher price. I've seen many people wearing them. I think it's called Invisalign invisible braces:
http://www.invisalign.com/generalapp/us/en/index.jsp
Otherwise, there's nothing much you can do to conceal your braces except have a closed-mouth smile (grin, I suppose), which is okay, but limits your smiling freedom.
To make your teeth look whiter, just brush them a lot and try not to eat or drink messy things like coffee that stains your teeth. Don't smoke.
Coupled with a great smile is great breath; make sure you clean your tongue often, because most of bad breath (e.g. halitosis) emanates from the tongue.
All in all, though, the key to having a great smile is in your mentality; even if you do all these things, if you have low confidence, you'll keep feeling depressed about your smile. Cheer up and be happy knowing that you're on your way to having a better smile. You should think that you're pretty the way you are (unless many people tell you you're ugly, in which case you might want to improve yourself a bit, but I'm sure that's not the case for you). Ultimately, smiling with visible braces seems okay to me, but if you're not happy with it, then perhaps you should consider the invisible clear braces.

You can ask your dentist about making your teeth look whiter, he would have the best answer to that. Also, I don't know what your family can afford but they now have invisible braces, check that out. You might ask about wearing them only at night. But, I'm 59 years old and think that braces look cute and I also understand that the person wearing them doesn't agree. You can practice in front of a mirror and see which smile you think looks better. Most of all, don't worry about it. Enjoy being your age. You will be happy one day that you had the braces and your teeth look great, it's when your older that it counts.

I had braces. Back then you could only get the metal ones. Today there are clear mounts and neon or clear "wires". In some cases they can actually be mounted to the inside of the mouth, that is to say the back of the teeth where they are not so visible. There are options if you are really self consious. BUT remember that braces cost a lot of money, they are a sort of status symbol. Smiling with them on and showing them off shows the world that your parents take very good care of you and they are willing to spend a lot of money to help you present your best side. The outcome is well worth it believe me. I got braces at 14 and they were off by 16... and I have had comments on how beautiful my smile is and my teeth are all my life. I'm 53 now and have taken such good care of my teeth that I have every single chicklet all in a row.. and all pearly white. My husband says I have the nicest smile he has ever seen.
Please don't be ashamed of those braces.. they are your ticket to looking head and shoulders above the rest... and they say "I have parents who LOVE me like crazy"...

To make your braces not as noticable, ask your mom or dad if you can get invisaline. If your like me and your parents can afford that or thy just think this way is cheaper. Try getting them in clear or white. That is what I did when I had braces. To get your teeth whiter. Brush after every time you eat. Floss and maybe you could try those whitening strips from oral that you put over your teeth adn it desolves over night and it gives you a brighter smile. Also try to wear bright colors. Try to focus on your make up a bit more. So when people first look at you the first thing they see is your face. And when you smile from afar with those new white/clear bands and whitening strips people shouldnt even be able to tell you have braces. Good Luck!

As a former braces wearer, I can honestly tell you this: brush your teeth, use the flossing aids, not just in the morning at before bed, but whenever you decide to eat something. That will keep them nice and clean, and odor free. Why be afraid to smile? They are a temporary process. Even if they were permanent, you should have more self confidence. Your smile reflects that confidence, or lack thereof. You can be afraid of what others think, and then you will not be an individual with a positive self image ( I am not telling you to overdo it now, either), and that will grab more negative attention than wearing anything that might catch the eye. You are not the only one that is wearing them, but you know what... just forget about them! People always respond better to a smile... with or without attatchments! Think of a pregnant woman who has a protruding belly... everyone is going to love the being that will come out of her, but she still often feels fat..... but to most everyone else.. she is most beautiful!

The only smile worth hating is a forced insincere smile. If you hate your smile, it really is not the braces or the lack of whiteness, it is the forced nature of it. Do not overuse your smile. Wait until you really want to and feel like it. Let it start with your eyes, when you can't hold back your mouth from smiling anymore, it will be a sincere and beautiful smile, even if there's a bit of food in the braces no one would notice, because it is the emotion of a smile that counts, not the theoretical perfection of teeth.

Unfortunately, until you have your braces removed, there is not a log you can do to make your smile "not as noticeable". You can continue to brush and keep your teeth clean as you have been. As far as smiling - just know that you are doing something about the condition of your teeth and gums and the out come will far outweigh any negative downsides to not liking your smile. I have seen students whose braces were removed and because they were formerly shy about smiling, they were even more uncomfortable and their smiles did not seem "natural". Don't worry about what other people think. Open your mouth and smile wide! Be happy about the changes that are taking place.

I had braces for a couple of years also. I used to hate smiling with them especially when taking pictures cause the flash from the camera would always enhance the look of the braces. Anyway, there's not much you can do about it. Just toughen it out because when those babies come off you will have BEAUTIFUL teeth!! When they come off you can ask the orthodontist to whiten your teeth.

Your best smile is the smile that you make. Society by now should realize that braces are a medical device just like a crutch is. Laughing at you because you have braces is the equivalent to crutches and wheelchairs. Go ahead and smile. Ignore your braces because when you take them off things may be a little bit better.
