I have a bachelor's degree. I graduated Summa *** Laude. I won a national award for my writing. I stayed with the same employer for 9 years before, during, and after I finished college at age 27. I present myself well: I'm attractive, I dress neatly, and I'm well spoken. I feel like I've applied to a zillion jobs, and I can't even get an interview anywhere.

I'm living in a new city, so I don't know anyone for "networking" purposes. How do I get my foot in the door to a job in my field?

I went to college right out of high school but left after my freshman year because I felt that I wasn't focused at that time. I took five years off to work, earn money and experience, and consider my options. I went back to school part time at 23 and full time at 25.
Yes, it would have been nice to finish in the 4 years after high school; I probably would not have had to worry about things like paying the rent while going to school at the same time. But at 18, I didn't know what direction to head in, and I felt that college was way too expensive to be just floating through. So I left to gather some wisdom, which I believe I did.

You just have to keep trying. Make sure you are not over qualified for the jobs you are applying for. Also, make sure you present yourself as confident, but not egotistical. Exactly what is your field? Is there a demand for that field in your area. You may have to consider relocating.

Question as an employer: You state you graduated at age 27 with a bachelor's and were with the same employer before during and after. However, as most people graduate highschool at 18 years old and your degree is a 4 year that took you 9 years to get....how is it you were there before and after? It took you 9 years to get your degree....the other question is why so long to get the degree? Most people graduate their bachelors at 22yrs old not 27.....I'm sure there are valid reasons out there like night school and such but just curious is all. Congrats on your degree and keep plugging...it'll happen.

girl, you need to follow the process of applying for jobs. if you apply and dont hear anything from them you need to write a letter letting them know your still interested and to concider you and state reasons you would be a good asset to their company. it might be your resume? sorry im not sure but sometimes company's do take their time and leave things for last minute and by then they end up interviewing anyone. its important that you stay positive and dont give up you will get a job soon, try calling too! best wishes ...

You haven't stated what your field is! Are you overqualified for the jobs for which you are applying? Give us a few more details (city, field you want to work in, etc.) and maybe we can give you some good suggestions. As vague as this is, it is hard to tell what the problem is.
