the reason petrol prices are so high in this country is simple.because the people of this country wont get off there arses and take to the streets.the government know this so that fat scotts git brown keeps on putting it up.when we had the fuel protests it took less then a week to bring this country to an almost total halt.but as usual people did,nt have the balls to keep it going and bring the government down.if you tried to charge the american people what we pay for a gallon of petrol there would be country wide protest and unrest.and it would last until the government gave in.of course brown is a robbing scumbag he,s the chancellor what do you expect?.but think on this he only does it because all of us just wont get out on the streets and protest.so really we the british people are as much to blame as brown.and if you think that this has anything to do with saving the planet then you are truly sad.if you want to do that i suggest someone has a word with the u.s.a. russia, china and india as they are the ones pumping all the crap into the atomsphere.personally i think its to late if the human race is still around in a 100 years time i eould be very surprised..we maybe the only technological civilisation in the universe.and we,ve blown it think of what we might have achieved if not for politics, religion, racisim and nationalism?.15 billion years of cosmic evolution wasted because of our petty arguements and lust for power and wealth.

The price of oil is always fluctuating as it is bought on the world market and is affected by supply and demand bla bla bla.
In this country a higher proportion of tax is charged to petrol to pay for services such as the National Health Service which other countries do not have or could even hope to have.
Been reading your replies to what is a British question - looking at your question I am not sure what a "letre" is, nor was I sure why someone was talking about gas and democrats, unless he was planning on gassing them, surely this is not advisable?

Yes the gasoline taxes are 4 to 6 times higher than the "obscene" profits earned by the oil companies. I'm sure that taxes are even higher outside the US.

So, why do you never hear about the obscene taxes on gas?

Oh, I forgot the liberal politicians like the gas tax and the news media is in their back pocket.

The voice of the majority gets heard but English people cannot stand together. The nearest was a few years back when the lorry drivers went on strike. We should all boycott Mondays until they drop the tax.

sure I blooming properly do. Our gasoline expenditures are interior the direction of the roof and we don't commute unnessecaraly. i could like to be able to paintings interior a 5 minute walk of my living house besides the undeniable fact that it shouldn't take place any time quickly and publice delivery? no longer likely to paintings. i could desire to get 2 buses to paintings taking on ninety minutes, I start up a 2pm and my son has an afternoon place in a private nursery, the earliest i can drop him of is 1pm. If i had to drop him off in the previous i could could desire to pay for a morning place costing me an extra £25 an afternoon. My spouse is a tradesman and actual does could want topersistent a van. He desires it for his kit and components and no bus could be able to take him between jobs in sufficient time to actual make money. So, we the two paintings, pay a hell of assorted tax and in another component of our lives we are fairly green and ethical yet we are able to't be without delivery.

People need to stop being so dependent on their cars; they are a luxury item and cause considerable damage to the environment.

Do you think they should cut tax on cigarettes too?! No, I didn't think so.

Yes, every time the price goes up, his tax take goes up, because it is based on a % of the price.
