The real disadvantage to advertising is spending the money in the wrong media and wasting the hard earned advertising dollar. There are a lot of ad salespeople out there who will try to sell you everything. Be selective. Know your target market and how to reach them. Don't advertize your new line of baby clothes in a construction trade journal. That's not your target audience. (A little far fetched but you get the drift.)

Well, you can look at all the medical ads on television, for instance. 10-15 years ago, it was NEVER like it is now. There was some law passed in the late 90's that allowed pharmaceutical companies to advertise on television. Now, everyone has herpes, migraines, mesothelioma, erectile dysfunction, allergies, heart problems, bed-wetting ...
And they want the new meds *now*. I can't imagine the kickbacks some doctors are probably getting for some of these medications.
To boot, companies like Berkley are making money off herbal meds that don't even work. Think of the 1950's-type commercial about the guy with ED. "Now he'll have a happy little lady at home" or something like that. Total crap .. it hasn't even been proven to work, but you know people are buying it like crazy, rather than going with Viagra or something.

Think about the reasons why you advertise. If you have something to sell, something to promote, or something to tell, that's why you advertise. Otherwise, why would you do so? The only down side to advertising would be the cost, or maybe the printer printing the wrong information. But, if you're selling a car, I can't think of a way to do that unless you get the word out, whether it's by mouth or otherwise. I think we need more information here to understand what you're asking. <*)))><

Advertisement sometimes concentrates on marketing the product for children. Makes smoking, and drinking alcohol fun, when you could have the same fun without the drugs.

Information overload. Typically you advertise to increase your sales, establish or improve your brand recall and to be truthfull honesty in advertising is non-existent. The idea is to get you to plop down your money at almost any cost.

i would call promoting unhealthy products and distributing wrong information disadvatages of advertising.
if your kid watches cartoons and sees macdonald's or candy ads - he/she is going to want that. and that is not healthy for children.
or if you keep seeing a commercial for pizza and you keep responding to it, that is not healthy for you.
advertisement often will force products into your life. people have to be smart to choose what's good for them.
and relocation of funds sometimes is a disadvantage. if a company came up with some product, they stop r&d (research and development) and spend more money on pushing it. which is often not good either.

If you want an answer, you'll have to take the trouble to write a question that people can understand.
Best wishes and God bless.
