Charges could mean life in prison

By JOHN LeMAY, Staff Writter

BENNINGTON -- A North Bennington man may face life in prison after being charged in Vermont District Court with sexual crimes against children, including a 6-year-old.

Barry S. Babson, 39, who was charged in March with sexual assault against two children, a 6-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl, has since been arraigned on charges involving two more children. The most recent charges came last week, when a judge found probable cause to indict Babson for aggravated sexual assault involving the 11-year-old. Aggravated sexual assault is defined in this case as subjecting a child under 16 to repeated non-consensual sexual acts. Babson was also charged last week with and lewd and lascivious conduct for allegedly "groping" a 13-year-old girl. Earlier this month, he was charged with both sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct involving a different 13-year-old. Babson, who was born in Bennington and most recently lived in West Pawlet before moving to North Bennington late last summer, now faces two life felony charges - sexual assault on a minor under 10 and aggravated sexual assault. Babson has a lengthy criminal history in Vermont and an outstanding arrest warrant from Florida for failing to appear in court. Law enforcement documents caution police that Babson has violent tendencies. He is being held without bail at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility in Rutland.

I agree that Barry Babson should be castrated and locked up forever. Not only for the crimes he has committed against society, but for the crimes he committed against his victims. The victims are small children. They have to live with what he has done to them for the rest of their lives.

Life in prison w/o possibility of parole. Put him in the general population. Child molesters are the lowest of the low in prison. They'll take care of him.

i truly think the death penalty is not too harsh for these people, it is meant to keep them from getting back into society. but since so many people see the perpetrator as the victim i would settle for castration if they insist on releasing him

as long as women's rights are under attack, and women don't unite to write their own legislation regarding a woman's body, these things will continue to happen. Ask yourself, am I doing my part? Women need to be protected, and laws need to be written to uphold their protection. Guilty of rape or child abuse ONCE, you are gone, byebye

Find a tree stump, air staple his penis to it, pour gas on the stump, hand him a plastic spoon, light the stump on fire, and tell him to cut or burn. people like him are sick, wrong, and dont deserve a life.
