I will be a bridesmaid in my friends wedding this 9/9/06. Her relationship fits a description of an abusive relationship to the t. What can I do? There is not one single person who thinks the wedding is a good idea. Her parents and sister have begged her to call it off. They're paying for the bulk of it, and I've sat down with them and my fiance to discuss what we should do. Any suggestions? My friend is the most outgoing, beautiful, intelligent girl you could meet. Noone understands what she is doing.

No one will be able to talk her out of it. All you could do is be there to pick up the pieces once she realizes what she's gotten herself into. Regardless of how beautiful, and intelligent she is there is a self esteem problem here. Don't turn your back on her, and don't disparage her choices. Listen, be supportive, and love her.

Be the one to boldly speak out about it when the minister/judge says "if anyone does not approve of this union, speak now or forever hold your peace", or whatever the phrase is.

Confront her fiance, with the support of her family.

Don't show up for the wedding.......................

You can't help someone until they want help. But you can remain friends and help her through the hell you know is coming.
