I still use it if it's been out longer than an hour sometimes. I don't go any longer than 2 hrs. though. I wouldn't leave it in a hot vehicle or outside, but in the cool air conditioned I do it. My baby is 9 1/2 mo. and I just started doing it some because he will play and while then pick up his bottle and drink a while. When he was a newborn I didn't...I was panicky about it.

Because it's milk based. You wouldn't want to drink a glass of milk that's been sitting out for an hour would you?? However, if you refridgerate the formula it can last up to 48 hours after it's been mixed or opened.

im not sure i totally understand your question but im guessing that you are asking why you are supposed to toss formula an hour after the baby has started feeding. the reason is because the babies saliva gets into the bottle and bacteria starts to grow. after an hour, it is no longer good for the baby to drink.

Because it is possible for bacteria from your baby's mouth to enter the nipple hole and go into the remaining formula. After an hour, it is possible for this bacteria to grow and make the baby sick.

If you leave it at room temperature, it develops high bacteria levels after just one hour (so does regular cow's milk). Expressed breastmilk is naturally anti-bacterial so it will last for 2 hours at room temp (3 if it's a cold room).

Because bacteria grows quickly, especially when a bottle has already been warmed up. Would you want to drink warm milk that has been sitting out, especially in this hot weather? I would say that if your baby hasn't drank it within 30 min, toss it out.

Because the baby formula companies want to sell more of their product.

If it went bad after one hour...it'd be illegal to sell the stuff.

Because your baby's system is very immature and more sensitive to bacterial contamination than yours. And formula is made to support life completely--not as *one* part of a diet, so it may be particular popular with microscopic life. It will go bad *faster* than milk. And, lastly, since it *is* your baby's entire diet, it has to be as nutritious and safe as possible.
