When I try to change my ringtone it keeps going back to the orignal menu so I can't change it. It's a motorola razor v3. Does anybody know a way to sort this out?

try deleting the ringtone you don't want anymore. If that doesn't work or you don't want to do that, go to the place that sold you the phone, or a dealer of that phone.

If it's a Verizon phone, you can go to a Verizon store and they will fix it or swap it out for you.

Good luck.

Have you recently dropped the device, or exposed it to water?

Very often the hardware inside these phones begins to experience glitches, and those are the two most common causes.

There's not much you can do, aside from returning the phone to your network provider - unless you purchased this device online, in which case you'll need to look over your warranty.

They may be able to "reformat" the device, replace the firmware, and if there's no actual damage it will continue working. Otherwise, it will have to be replaced.

Razr v3s have been known to have buggy software due to its "media" functions.
