It's called Body Acne. It's due to heat and your glands getting clogged. Try using some Medicated Apricot scrub from St Ives, it will exfoliate the skin and add some Sacilyic Acid to help control it. Then I would take a wash cloth and put Witch Hazel on it (you can find it at any drug store, it will just say witch hazel and it is a liquid and you can find it near the hydrogen proxide and first aid stuff). Do this twice daily and it should hopefully be more controlled or gone.

Because you have clooged pores there, probably becasuse you have been perspiring a lot. I suggest take daily showers and while in the bath exfoliate with a luffa with a handle ( so you can reach your back)( bath salts or something that exfoliates) after that use a cleanser. {use a mask on your back, depending on how bad the pimples are and how many} Then I guarenty you will have unclogged pores and no more pinples on your back.

If you are a teenagers, it's hormones. Using an acne fighting body wash like Neutrogena's will help, but probably won't cure it. Sweating won't cause acne, unless you aren't showering after a hard workout. If it is a huge issue for you, see a dermatologist and he/she can help you find the real cause and the best treatment.

And if you're young, it will probably clear with age.
