The name brands are so over priced... there is such a huge mark up on those clothes.
They all get made in factories for a dime a dozen. It costs the manufacturer a fraction of what you pay to produce their product.
Honestly, an AFitch shirt can cost $30-$60 for a plain t-shirt.. do you really think it costs more than $5-$9 for the yard of thin cotton fabric they use? Probably not even that much at wholesale. You so pay for the name.
An interesting fact that I just learned is that Victoria Secret, being as expensive as they are... burns the clothing items they don't sell. Anything seasonal, or anything that doesn't make clearance or doesn't get sold at clearance goes into big boxed to be shipped to be incinerated... Now do you really think if it took a lot of money to make, they would just burn it like firewood? NOPE!! Barely costs them a thing to make, you pay $50 per bra, and they just burn the stuff... don't even donate it to battered women or shelters or anything.
Seriously, you can go to Mervyns or even Target.. pick out some clothes.. spend $50-75 for a full outfit.. go to Express, put a similar outfit together, that looks just as good and spend $125-175
The quality is not usually better, unless it's like egyptian cotton or another exotic fabric. With jeans... denim is denim.. no matter how you put it.. yes, even for the $160 jeans...it's all the same stuff.
All clothes get made in factories, and cost the producer almost nothing...they charge the consumer an arm & leg for it.. and they make millions all because you "have to have it"

I think name brands can be worth the money at times. When you buy things like jeans and outer wear (jackets, coats) it's a good idea to spend more because there was more care and effort put into the making of the item. These companys have to make a profit, so the more they charge then you know they put better materials and more time into the item, they just have to be properly compensated for their hard work. You can buy two fo the same totes. One could be from Target for $20, and one could be from Coach for $200. But the one from target will eventually fall apart and the one from coach will last you a long time and look a lot nicer too.
On the other hand these brands can go over board. And it's not really necesary to spend so much on clothing, when there are people in the world who can't afford to buy a pair of shoes. I think buying these items sparingly and within your budget is a nice treat for the style concience. However, just don't go over board.

Name brand clothes are pricey because of the label. I don't think they are worth the extra money and I don't shop at stores because of what labels they sell.
If my child is playing outside and gets a rip in the clothing and I can't repair it, the clothing is garbage no matter what the cost. The high price close rip and tear just as easy as the no name wear.
This is many years ago, not sure if they still have it or not, but Sears used to see "GarAnimal" brand clothing. The boys wear had reinforced knees and was worth every penny.
I look for value, fashion and wear. A fortune does not have to be spent to have fashionable clothing.

Usually the reason to justify the overprice of the clothes is the quality of their raw materials, advertising, costumer attention and company development.
But it's also known that the garment is a simple product. That the difference among all the competence is: lower than high end product (most expensive) and better than supermarket clothing (cheapest). The costs of the raw materials of medium price is much bigger than the cheap products; The difference between the raw materials of the high quality products and medium price is only 20%.
The rest is advertising costs, store location and fancy events. Don't believe if you are working on a fancy brand you are better paid, it's a lie.
Also the overprice is a limit to the costumer that can get it, most of the time , absurd.

One one side, they are trendy. They look good. Also, those stores provide jobs that other department stores (which sell clothing at a lesser price) may not be able to provide.
Yet name brand clothing is expensive. Fights and arguments start over who has what shoes... Also there is more pressure put on those people who cannot afford the name brand clothing, and they are excluded from some social groups.

My argument only comes from personal experience. Name-brand clothing is a profit-driven rip-off. People pay for the logo, not the quality of clothing. I buy crazy cheap, non-name-brand clothes from thrift stores. Not only am I constantly being complimented for my unique wardrobe, but the clothes last way longer than anything from American Eagle. I know, cause I used to buy the name-brand stuff all the time. I got sick of always wearing the same shirt as everyone else...

Pros: By buying namebrand you get fashion acceptance and you feel more confident. Also the clothes are sometimes pretty decent quality. Cons: No-one looks at the tags in your clothes. They are more expensive. Sometimes off name brands are excellent quality because they need to try harder to sell them. You can get the same look for less money and let them think they are name brand. You can get more clothes when they are less money. You are showing that you are confident anyway and you can pick your own unique style. Well, It looks like there are more cons then pros. I don't buy name brand, I am an individual with my own style and don't need to wear someone else's name to be confident. Also, I look for excellent quality, which does not necessarlily correspond to name brand anyway.

Name brand clothes are bought solely for the name. It’s nothing more than a status symbol. The quality of the clothing is not superior to non-name brand fashions and therefore is not worth the extra fifty plus dollars you will spend on it.
Not to mention, a lot of name brand clothing is made over seas in sweatshops and costs the companies next to nothing to produce. The cost is then jacked up for the gullible consumer who is willing to spend an arm and a leg on something which they will probably only wear for one season before discarding it.
