The reason we pay taxes is so that the government will take care of and protect us. That is the primary function of the government. If a government is not willing to do that, it has no purpose.

This is a slight tangent, but both sides of this conflict piss me off. The Israelies have acted in an incredibly foolish and violent manner, while the Arab countries continue to act antagonistically toward them. Being that Isreal has nukes and Iran may have them, it's only a matter of time until mushroom clouds start popping up. Who the hell should we bill for the evacuation? The U.S. for not encouraging a soulution? Isreal for being warmongers? The Arabs for having no patience for differing religious beliefs?

No. They should not be billed by anyone. Nor should the US bill Israel. We must take care of our own citizens. By the way you word your question you give the impression that you think the US should send a bill to Israel for the rescue costs.

With all that the US spends on defense, I think it's kind of ridiculous to charge your citizens for evacuating them from a war zone in which your ALLY is the one bombing them.
