A blood test is supposedly more accurate because it can detect low levels of the pregnancy hormone in your body, unlike the urine tests where it can only detect the pregnancy hormone when it reaches a certain level. But if you are truly pregnant, then home pregnancy tests such as urine sticks can detect it by the first day of your missed period. I tested when my period was at least a week late, and it showed positive right away on the urine stick.

A blood test is more accurate but some times neither works because of not enough preg hormones in your body but most preg will show with a urine test. My first pregnancy it did not show up with either test untill the doctors did a ultra sound at 31/2 months along but my last two a urine test worked right away.

A blood test is much more accurate. It can also detect pregnancy sooner than a urine test as the hormone that signals pregnancy enters the blood stream before the urine.

When I first found out I was pregnant early last year, I had taken a home pregnancy test (EPT, and it was positive), but I still took a blood test at the clinic to verify it. I wouldn't rely 100% on those at-home pregnancy tests. They can be very inaccurate. To get solid results, do a blood test. You can get one for free at several different women's clinics.

A blood test may be "more" accurate, but who wants to be stuck with a needle? The blood test can just tell sooner. As someone else already said, you can get a false negative with a urine test (if you do it too soon) but you won't get a false positive. So if you did a home test and it was positive, BELIEVE IT!

Blood test

A blood test can detect the pregnancy hormone sooner in the pregnancy than a urine test can.

All pregnancy tests measure the amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) — the pregnancy hormone — in your body, but the two types of tests differ in how (and when) they detect it.

Most home pregnancy tests are urine tests. They detect the amount of hCG in your urine, but only when it reaches a certain level.

If you use one of these tests too early in pregnancy, the amount of hCG in your urine may not be high enough for a positive result. But almost all urine pregnancy tests will give you accurate results if you test at around the time your period would normally be due — about two weeks after you ovulate. A test may be negative for several reasons: You may not be pregnant, you may have ovulated later than you thought (and so not be far enough along for the test to detect your hCG), or your pregnancy may have complications affecting the amount of the hormone in your body.

The other kind of pregnancy test measures the amount of hCG in your bloodstream, not your urine. Blood tests can measure much smaller amounts of the hormone, and so can detect pregnancy earlier than urine tests, usually about six to eight days after ovulation. Unfortunately, blood tests are more expensive, must be ordered by a physician, and require you to give a blood sample. Most women use urine pregnancy tests since they're much easier.

Blood tests are the most accurate for pregnancy testing. Both worked for me, then again I knew I was pregnant before I got tested all 3 times.... I just knew....
But blood test is the most accurate.

A blood test is infinitely more accurate. And remember, you can have false negative test results, but you cannot have false positive test results!
