What is a warranty? Can you ask to repair a mouse for free if you have a warranty? I bought my HP computer less than a year ago and the mouse is acting weird. It just freezes and wont move to one side. I tried to clean it like what the directions said but it still didnt work. It starts to act okay after awhile but then it freezes again. I know for sure it's not the computer. It's the mouse. How can I fix this problem? Would the warranty cover it? And how do I ask to fix this problem with the warranty?

Normally a warranty covers up to 1 year for all hardware. If you have an extended warranty where you purchased a warranty for 2 or 3 years, then all hardware is covered by your computer company.

What company is it from? If its from Dell or Toshiba, you can tell easily online on their website.

I would just buy a new mouse since they are like $10 instead of waiting for them to get a new one for you. But if you want them to cover it, you should contact them and make sure you have a warranty. The computer company will know the answer if you give them your service tag.

Yes you can avail the warranty sevice. Just take the mouse and describe them the problem the way you have written here.

Most possible reasons :

Make sure that your mouse pad does not have any shiny surface. This effects optical mouses.

Make sure that you clean the mouse . If you are using a mouse with a ball then remove the ball. You will find two plastic rollers inside. Clean the accumulated dirt on it .

Make sure the surface which you are using is smooth.

Contact the store where you bought the computer and ask them if your warranty includes the keyboard and mouse.. generally it will, depending on if it's a manufacturers warranty or you went through the store (such as future shop)
