I have a Dell laptop and am getting Comcast high-speed internet. I will be using the internet at home for both a desktop and a Dell laptop? Is there a specific wireless router that I need to get? How much does it cost?
Otherwise, any suggestions as to what is a good, quality wireless router and how much will it cost?

The good thing is that Wireless routers are based upon a standard, IEEE 802.11, however there are "flavors" of this. The most common are B (11Mbit/s with a 30 meter range), G (54Mbit/s, with a 30 meter range) & now a new standard is coming, by 2007, N (540Mbit/s, with a 50 meter range). These are are generally backward compatible as well.

These routers have become amazingly inexpensive over the past few years. Belkin makes an oustanding Pre-N version router (F5D8230-4) that sells for under $100 and is extemely easy to set up. It supports B&G and will support N as it becomes standardized. Check the link for reviews

What area are you in? My local phone company offers a DSL modem/wireless all in one! No need to buy a seperate wireless router. They also offer speeds faster than cable and I don't have to share my bandwith with all of my neighbors.

If you have to go the cable router I would watch the Sunday adds and look for good deals on wireless routers. Sometimes you can get them pretty cheap after a rebate or a good sale.

Good luck

Yes and no. No, there is no specific brand as they all use the same standards. Yes, you must make sure that it is compatible with the wireless NIC cards you are using. If you only have 802.11b on your network cards and buy a strictly 802.11g router you will not be able to connect. The best bet is to get one that handles 802.11a, b, and g so you don't have to worry about it.
