I had 3 boys and these are a few of the things we used to do.

Play tag. They love to run and chase you at that age. Of course they always win.

Go for walks and let them pick up treasures. Sticks and rocks. Then when you get home let him glue them to a box to make a present for someone or to use to hold other treasure.

Read to him. This will actually help him learn to read earlier. Get a picture book and let him "read" it to you. You will be amazed at the stories they come up with using those pictures. Great way to stimulate their imaginations.

Make kazoos out of toilet paper rolls. Take an empty roll and cover one end with a piece of wax paper held on with a rubber band. Then you hum into the open end. You could make a couple of these and have a kazoo band or make one of those and a oatmeal box drum. March around the yard playing your "music".

Put on your bathing suits and run through the sprinklers with him.

Let him "help" you do housework. Believe it or not kids love doing this, at least at that age. My boys loved to "wash" the dishes. I would fill up the sink with lukewarm water and soap and let them wash the plastic dishes. Of course I had to do them all again later and clean up the mess, but that was during their naps so they wouldn't know. They also like to sweep. Get him a broom that is his size and let him help you sweep the patio or sidewalk.

Don't just sit in front of a TV with him. You can do that for short periods but not for long at a time. They need to be active and use their imaginations.

Most important is to hug him often and tell him what a great job he is doing. You are very important in building his self esteem.

I really like playing pretend. Make salt dough or pretzel dough and let him make animals and people. Then bake them while you watch a movie!

Recipes:
4. Pretzel animals: In a big bowl mix together 1 package yeast, 1.5 cups warm water, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 tablespoon salt. Stir in 4 cups white flour and 2 cups of whole wheat flour, knead on a counter dusted with flour until the dough is smooth. Shape into animal shapes, brush with a beaten egg and sprinkle with a little salt. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 425 degrees.

1. Salt dough: If you haven't already experienced salt dough, you will be more than happy with this new discovery. It was a real mainstay in my house for many years. Together you and your child can mix up the dough, then you can set him to work molding, sculpting, rolling and cutting, pounding and squishing.

The recipe:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
a little less than 1/2 cup water
Mix flour and salt, add water until mixture holds together like dough, knead.

This dough will keep in the refrigerator for a few days if stored in plastic.

Once the final shape has been decided, bake it in a warm oven (200 to 250) until dry. Thicker pieces will take longer and may be better air dried. Once dried they can be painted. Some great ideas are: hand impression plaques, cookie cutter ornaments, animal sculptures, beads, and free form shapes.

Use age appropriate toys (made for children under 3) and just play. Or get some plastic tupperwear kinds of bowls, a small spoon and start a "jam session." He'd probably love to "play the drums!" Let him take the lead and follow him around. 2 year olds are very good at finding fun.

DO NOT LET HIM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT. 2 year olds can get into trouble very quickly.

Try to find a variety of fun activities to do with them throughout the day in an organized schedual. Like after breakfast you can try letting them watch a few television shows on playhouse disney or something of that sort. Then after that, you can do arts and crafts activities such as creating a scrapbook or a story book with illustrations. After lunch you can read them a story and settle them down for a nap. When they wake up from their nap you can try more arts and crafts (sock puppets are fun) or try listening to music with them. I also suggest finding games to play with them or spending a fun afternoon at the local park. Have fun ;]

My son is 2 years old and he loves to be outside. Wether we are playing at the park or just taking small walks around the block. This is also helpful because he gets rid of all that built up energy and sleeps well when bedtime comes. If it's rainy then cars, trucks or bugs are always exciting to little boys. Hope this helps. :)

You could go to the park. Kids love to be able to run around out side and play on toys. There will most likely be other kids there, so he would have some interaction. Find out when there is free live music where you live, I'm sure he would love that. Inside you can do simple arts and craft, or turn on the radio and let him get all silly.

zoo, park, walking, "paint" the sidewalk with water, play with Duplo blocks, make a fort out of chairs and blankets, read, have him try to find objects around the house, look for different colors.
