You can lose your mucus plug a few hours before labor or a few weeks before. Just look for other signs, knowing for sure would be contractions and your bag of waters breaking. Try to do some light walking to help bring the baby down to your cervix but don't over do it get some rest for the big day. That baby will be here soon and you need all the energy you can get for labor. Getting anxious can actually delay labor so try to relax

Losing your plug doesn't necessarily mean you will go into labor. You can lose it all at once or over a course of a few days. If labor doesn't start, you can grow a new plug. You could go into labor now or it could take a week or more. It doesn't really mean much.
With my first, I lost my plug and went into labor about a week later. With #2 and #3, it wasn't as noticiable when I lost it...probably over several days.

Same as Liz. And I was 1cm for over a week. good luck.
You can loose the plug weeks before labor. But since you are at 40 weeks, you should be going into labor soon. You'll probably have doctors appt every couple of days now, too.

Your plug will grow back. My Dr. said it is not a good way to determine when labor will start. I lost mine weeks before I went into labor. Ask your Dr. to strip your membranes to help move things along. Try drinking Raspberry leaf tea or Cinnamon stick tea. It can help labor begin.

It really depends. I went into labor before I lost the plug. I also went over 10 days...so you never know!

With my first one I lost the plug two days before. Second child I lost it the same day and with #3 lost it a day before. So everyone is different.
