I was considering attending a tournament, but I only play MTG recreationally with friends and what are probably very relaxed "house rules". In the tournament, there are all these different formats: Sealed, Mixed, Standard, Legacy, Vintage, Booster Draft, Limited (there might be some I missed). What do these mean exactly? You don't have to type it all out if you can link me to somewhere it is already typed up. Thanks.

Feel free to hand me any other tips you think might help me understand the tournaments better too.

Formats for MTG are quite fluid in nature. The details of each format cah change on a monthly basis due to a variety of factors.

Open format means that any card from any set can be used.

Beyond that, the formats are defined by which sets they allow. These "blocks" are defined by the expansion sets and the version of the basic cards which were in use at the time.

All formats are further governed by restricted cards, which are not allowed in those formats.

For current format information, you can go to Wizards website.

Here is a link for Wizards of the Coast tournament page. On the left hand menu called "Programs", you should see a list of the formats you asked about. Hope it helps:)

in maximum situations, you may play with a deck of mixed variations, despite if there are some tournaments that are constrained to purely specific variations. frequently you may play with enjoying cards from any variations different than right here: Unglued anf Unhinged.
