I got a parking ticket yesterday in a white zone -- passenger loading 5 minutes max. I want to contest the ticket because the lady who wrote me up was unprofessional and unfair. My boyfriend was attending the car while i hopped out to pick up some pre-ordered food. It didn't even take me 5 minutes to get back. Plus my boyfriend only stepped out of the car to help me with the bags....but we were right in front of my car. The ticket lady was just sitting in her car and talking on her cell phone the entire time...and I walked up to her and try to tell her that it wasn't unattended. But she was rude, she raised her voice and said, HOLD ON to me, and she went back to her conversation on the cell phone. So I just stood there for like 10 minutes waiting for her to get off the phone. My boyfriend tried to talk to her as well and she repeated, I SAID HOLD ON. She got off the phone, punched in my info and then just gave us the ticket and drove off. I am trying to contest it. Anyone with exp?

I contested a stop-sign violation once and won. I would suggest the following:
1. Be prepared the first time, but plan to have to come back a second time since the "ticket lady" will probably not be present at the initial court date.
2. Focus first on the facts - but I fear you have trouble there as you were (by your own admission) parked in a passenger loading zone but you were not loading passengers, you were picking up food.
Alternative: How much is the ticket? If not too much, considering time you'll lose, it might not be worth the trouble. However, you might want to call whomever supervises the ticket lady and find out how to file a complaint; that person may be able to 1) address the ticket lady's problems with people; and 2) do away with your ticket.

I doubt that you are going to be able to contest the ticket with that story....in the end, it will be your word versus the the ticket lady's. My advice is to closely examine the ticket, and hope that the ticket lady made mistake in writing it. Any error should do. I've heard of tickets getting thrown out for dates being wrong. My best advice is to talk to a lawyer....most offer free consultation and may help you with your contesting of the ticket.

Yes. You will lose. Everytime I am in traffic court someone brings up that the person writting the ticket was Rude, unproffessional or unfair, the judge is going to find you guilty because he doesntt care, you were parked illegally, you broke the law. Id pay the ticket, because if you show up in court its going to be double because of court costs and such.

good luck. without any proof it's your word against hers. they'll never void the ticket simply bcuz the bi*tch was unprofessional. you can still go and maybe the judge or whoever will be lenient and void the ticket. but more than likely you'll just wind up paying the ticket. without proof, be really hard. and they're meter maids, being a bit*ch and uprofessional is a job requirement.

Also, you could ask the Judge if leaving someone with the car is technically Parking. If your bf had the keys, and it could have been moved, I don't think it's "parked". That's called standing. So, did the sign say no standing? Maybe, like wannarace said, the b%#@ wont show.

lack of expertise of the regulation isn't an excuse. in case you pick the city to put up a demonstration each and every 20 ft putting ahead what's unlawful, your taxes are going to bypass up better than this value ticket is going to value you. with the point to respond to: No, you mustn't contest it.

Sometimes when you get traffic violations if you go to the court house and the person who wrote you the ticket does not show up they will dismiss it, but you will have to pay the court costs. (This is what happened for me)

You need to find out who the person's supervisor is. Complain to him and you will prolly get it taken care of.

I would just pay it and wait for Kharma to work in your favor in the future.

Just pay it and learn not to do it again.
