Kids draw what they feel, and what they see. Adults tend to draw what they "know" (or think they know) which is often not what they really see.

Stop drawing what your logical brain "knows" and REALLY LOOK at what you are drawing. Remember it's ok to let other people know what you're feeling, just like when you were a kid.

No. Although children haven't got the mental constrains of adults an artist must also master the techniques and understanding of the visual elements.
How do we preserve a child's way of looking at the world? That questions was asked by Joan Miro throughout his entire career. That also was the goal of the surrealist movement (Joan Miro is sometimes included in that group) Through a series of exercises or games (like 'the exquisite corpse') you can train your mind to break from the conscious constrains and let the subconscious take a more active part of the creative process.

Yes, they're freer. I was much better when I was younger because I didn't care what others thought or wanted; I wasn't trying to please anyone else. We tend to lose that as we get older. Too bad. That's one reason a lot of artistic (music, comics, etc) people drink or do drugs. I can't sing very well sober, but drunk I'm great!

I think all of the answers you've gotten already and then some.... kids aren't 'programmed' yet. They don't have the years of 'rules' we've absorbed as adults.
How to encourage? I'd foster their talents by letting them do what they want to artistically...some things they try will work, some won't....but it's the continuing fearlessness to try new things is what they'll retain and grow from.
