How many people own pets/companion animals in Florida?

In particular I am interested in Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee counties.

There are a lot of dog grooming vans on the road, and there are always pet-related stories in the news, here.

I'd like to see fewer pitbulls, though. Seem to be incredibly popular in the less affluent parts of town.

I am in Lee County and Pets are a very big thing here.
