I have heard so many things on how to conceive, I just want to hear people's stories, and how they became pregnant if you were trying for a while with no results. I also heard that if you lose some weight it can help you get pregnant, has anyone done that? if so how much weight did you lose?

My wife and I had a very difficult time getting pregnant. She was diagnosed with PCOS. The ob/gyn put her on a medicine called metformin, she got pregnant like a month after she started taking it - at the most, it was less than that I think. . .

My wife lost weight all through-out her pregnancy. Apparently it happens a lot.

Wondering, I am not pregnant yet but am having a hard time. My husband (30) and I (26) have been trying for 10 months. I went off the pill 9/17/05 and like most people thought it would happen immediately. That was not the case. I saw my gyno for a preconception visit 1/20/06 (which everyone needs to do - according to What to Expect When Your Expecting - I've read it cover to cover). My Dr. mainly told me not to stress because it can delay ovulation. She told me because of our ages we would not be able to see an infertility specialist until we had been actively trying for at least a year. Since my husband had an accident in the military we went to our primary care physician for a semen analysis. We found out it was low - real low (12 million). We were able to see a urologist (try to find one who specializes in male infertility). The second semen analysis improved (24 million) but his urologist thinks for his age, health, etc. it should be 80 million. My husband has recently under went a procedure to correct a vericocel. We will not be able to see if it worked until 8/21/06. There is only a 40% chance it did.

Try using ovulation predictor kits. Start using them around the tenth day of your cycle. Day one of your cycle is the first day of your period. Only have sex every other day. Everyday is too much. Stay in bed with a pillow or two under your bottom for 20 min. to an hour. I stay on mine all night. I have never heard anything about the weight but I do know you should be as close to your ideal weight before conception but should not diet while trying to conceive. Try exercise. It is highly recommended and will help you with labor, delivery and getting your figure back faster after birth. Best of Luck, Jenni

I tried for over a year and a half to get pregnant with my first. I took the 'lose weight' advice from my doc and lost 50 pounds! It was not easy - it took me eating a low carb/low glycemic index diet and exercising every single day. I walked 6 miles every morning! Fat was not going to keep me from having a baby - of that I was sure. I have PCOS - so losing weight helped balance my hormones enough to conceive! I also had acupuncture twice, listened to fertility CDs by Belleruth Naparstek, and tried to think positive...

This time I got pregnant while breastfeeding! Yes, I knew it could happen - but given my history I thought it wouldn't happen to me - surprise!!!

HI, WEIGHT IS A FACTOR, BUT THERE ARE OTHER ALTERNATIVES TO CONCIEVING. I DOWNLOAD AN ONLINE OVULATION CALENDAR AND AFTER YOU PUT IN THE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR LAST MENSTRUAL CYCLE FROM THE PREVIOUS MONTH, IT WILL GIVE YOU YOUR HIGH PREGNANCY DAYS AND YOUR LOW PREGNANCY DAYS. IT WILL TELL YOU THE TIMES TO HAVE SEX, WHEN IT'S HIGH FOR A BOY OR GIRL AND WHEN YOUR CHANCES ARE SLIM. IT IS VERY ACCURATE, BECAUSE IT WORKED FOR ME AND I GOT PREGNANT. ALSO ANOTHER METHOD THAT WORKED FOR ME WAS THIS. LIFT UP YOUR BOTTOM WITH PILOWS, SO THAT YOUR BOTTOM IS UP ABOVE YOUR CHEST, WHILE YOU BACK IS FLAT ON THE BED. DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING? THIS HAS ALSO HELPED ME GET PREGNANT IN THE PAST ALSO. I HAVE A 14 AND A 13 YEAR OLD AS A RESULT OF THIS. TRY THESE METHODS.OH!! AND WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED, DON'T JUST JUMP RIGHT UP, LAY THERE FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, SO THAT THE METHOD WILL WORK. IT IS ALSO A PRETTY COMFORTABLE POSITION TO SLEEP IN ALSO. SO, GOOD LUCK ON CONCIEVING. I KNOW THAT YOU WILL GET PREGNANT, BUT PROBABLY WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT, SO HANG IN THERE,OKAY. GOD BLESS.

If you are overweight then it does help to lose some weight, the healthy way, no pills. I lost twenty pounds but before that I tried for three years with no success. My sister suggested I remain lying down for at least two to four hours with my legs propped up on a pillow after intercourse with my husband. I literally followed her instructions to the point that I would not even get up to go to the bathroom, I remained there until I fell asleep. Falling asleep became a habit, so I got pregnant. Usually I would get up immediately after to clean myself, and it worked like a charm twice, now I have two beautiful girls.

My advice is that in addition to remaining in a horizontal position after intercourse, talk to your OB gyn to start preparing your body at least six months before the time you wish to get pregnant, watch your diet, take folic acid, check your teeth, lose some weight if you have to, ditch smoking too.

If all that fails you and your husband have to go to the OB and start having some tests made.

Good Luck

I went thru fertility treatments and nothing worked. We stopped after 2 1/2 years and about a year after that I lost 20 lbs. Surprise..I got pregnant.

Since that pregnancy we tried for the next one. Lost 10 lbs and here I am 6 months pregnant. I do have fibro-cystic ovaries in which insulin levels can stop ovulation. Dieting has worked for me.

To get pregnant you must have sex on a day that your eggs are being released.

After the 3rd day from the day that menses started put a thermometer into your mouth and check your body temperature every morning before you start turning in bed. The best time is at about 4 a.m. Maintain a chart. You will find that on one day the body temperature drops from 1/2 degree to one degree. This is the day that your eggs are being released. If you want to get pregnant this is the day that you must have sex. Tell your husband to ejaculate on his inward thrust so that the sperms will shoot deep inside.

After having sex you must stay in bed for about 30 mins with your knees bent up with a pillow under your buttocks so that the sperms will not pour out - to enable them to travel up.

Get your husband to save his sperms in the testacles for at least 5 days before sex to enable them to mature well to do their job.

I've not ever been pregnant and my husband and I aren't trying yet, but I've always been scared it is going to take me some time to get pregnant. It took my mother 10 years to have me because she was overweight and also because my father had a low sperm count. Sometimes it can also be psychological and if you stop "trying" and just make love, it will happen. Good Luck to you!

Do you know when u ovulate? That is your first step. To figure that out, take your temperture first thing in the morning before you even get out the bed, chart this, when ur temp rises, you will be ovulating, I think it only last 3 days, but that will be the best time to try and get pregnate.

Dear Wondering,

We did have a tough time until my wife lost weight. I think there are some fertility conditions that are exacerbated by high caloric intake (especially sugar), and once sugar is controlled, that helps fertility quite a bit. See information on PCOS.
