no this does not make you a racist..it just makes him an asshole and you need to get a different partner real soon.....
i hate this ignorant situation....you were too nice...cuz i know if i had my station turned to something nobody is turning anything.
You didn't do ANYTHING to offend him..he is just an butt head who likes to play the race card anyway he can. You need to state your case and if possible sue him for defamation of character....
I KNOW I WOULD
P.S. -why do u need to know my race?...just know that I agree with you....

No, that doesn't make you a racist at all. Especially if you listened to music you don't like for five hours! Unless there were other words exchanged to indicate that you're a racist, what you've just explained does not.
I would report him for slander. If you work for a business that investigates on such a whim, give it right back to him.
I'm not a racist either and I've never ran into a problem quite like that. He may have read into your music taste a little too much and stereotyped you. There are a lot of country music fans who are racist, but of course, that doesn't mean all of them are! I live in a part of Virginia where there is a lot of country fans. It does seem that a large number of them are racist. Perhaps he's thinking on that same level of ignorance.
I am white, but I have friends of all colors and we don't have these issues with each other. Good luck

You stated that you wanted to know what you did to offend him. What you did was change the station without notifying him that you would. I believe that gave him a right to change the station back immediately because you did the same thing to him, you didn't inform him that you were going to change the station.
Most work environments allow radio play if it is kept to a reasonable audio level and an agreement over which radio stations are allowed to be heard. An agreement that should include everyone in management with input from employees. Not everyone is going to get to hear what they want to hear at work that allow radio play, but at least they do get to hear something.
A business should dictate the music they allow their employees and customers to hear. I would expect to hear a hip hop station in a "trendy" mall store that targets its sales the younger hip hop generation of shoppers. As I would expect to hear a country station in a "western" store in which the target sales reach country lovers.
If that is not your work environment situation, then a consensus of the employees in that location should work out a radio station schedule and stick to it or have management remove the radio or pick the station.
True we all have our personal tastes in music selection, some are eclectic and others are exclusive, as with all relationships, work and otherwise, learn to compromise.
How does it make you racist? Labeling hip hop music to a certain race would make you a racist, but all types of races listen to and love hip hop. Only in that way would I say you were being racist, otherwise it seems you were fair and respectful.
Just don't go changing the station without letting others know that you intend to because that was rude.
P.S. I think asking me to include my race with this answer is racist. Evaluate the response and not the responder.

No you weren't racist at all, he was. The race card is really getting to be a tired old song and dance. I personally like many kinds of music including some hip-hop,jazz,blues,soft rock, classic rock, and yes country. My son listened to hip-hop at times in the house actually the only lines I drew with him were that "gangsta rap" s***. You were definitely fair he was wrong and oh yeah Big Troy I thought the day ole "TU PACK OF CRACKERS" got himself killed probably should have been a national holiday. How's that for racist?

You said it is your radio and he has only worked a couple of weeks there.
He was rude to change your radio, you were too nice to listen to hip hop for that long.
Call you a racist is way over the top.
Your supervisor has to go through the motions it is a law.
This only proves you can't be nice to some people.

yes this does make you a racist. Why does it have to be country music. And why exactly can't you stand hip hop? Does it frighten you to see blacks doing well in their life. You should have asked him if you could change the station back. And I don't care if it was your radio you said he could change the station. You probably fly the confederate flag from the bed of your big gas guzzling pickup don't you.
I am Black and proud and you are a racist redneck.

According to this story it is that racist loser you let listen to the radio who is evil. This is worst form of racism since there is no legal defense against someone who throws race card at people for no reason. I would go to boss explain what happened and say that you are filing for a restraining order against the guy and you want to file slander charges against the guy and that if company ever allows him near you then you will sue for harassment.
Potato: how can you assume he is white and say wrong to assume other was black? Not starting anything just trying to work it thru my head

Sounds to me like your co-worker has discovered a nifty way to intimidate others.
Tell your boss that musical tastes haven't got a dadburned thing to do with race, that you simply wanted a turn with music you preferred and that your co-worker by getting all worked up about it was proving that the only racist around was himself.
I'm white. My personal preference is classical, followed by ancient and ethnic. I love Near Eastern music. Does that make me a supporter of Al Qaida? Not bloody likely!

What the hell does it matter what "race" someone is anyway? And, no it doesn't make you racist that you don't like hip-hop. I don't like hip-hop, but I also don't like country, so if I was there, we would be listening to the classic rock station.

i'm south asian(thai, cambodian, filipino, and singaporian). no, u aren't being racist. it's just that guy is waayyyyyyy too sensitive and he is a jerk. i'm just sayin, i'm guessin that guy is either black or hispanic. and i'm guessing u r white, so he probably thinks u are racist automatically cuz of that. he overreacted cuz he just thought u would be racist nd i kno that some black/hispanic ppl are really sensitive and they got lots of attitude and take offense to everythin cuz they think the whole world is against them. NOT TRUE. but some white ppl are racist, so they yell at everyone just in case. i never had a problem like that b4, since i'm like dark brown and i look mexican, hispanic/black ppl usually accept me pretty easily. but my hispanic/black friends do get offended easily by others but hey they are great friends cuz once they accept u , they REALLY stick up for you. i don't kno if that guy will ever accept u as a friend, but let things chill for a while and act friendly, and most importantly, DON'T flip-out at him cuz anythin u say will seem racist to him
goodluck, hoped i helped.
