Contact the manufacturer of your computer or look in the manual for your motherboard. There are three types of ram you can get SDRAM, DDR, and DDR2. One of these is the type your computer can use. In addition to the type some computers can only handle ram at a certain speed. For example, my computer takes DDR at a max of 333MHz. So I had to buy ram that was no faster than that or faster ram that was able to run at a slower speed.

If you got a pre-fabricated PC, you will have to get new RAM installed by the manufacturer unless you want to void the warranty.
If you built it yourself, the motherboard should have come with a manual. The manual will specify what RAM it can use.
If someone else put it together for you, try to get that manual from them.
If you can't get the manual, try to find out what motherboard you have, and check that companies web site.
