Here's one for you: The beach can be sickening. A UCLA/Stanford study found that bacteria in the waters of southern California are making beach goes sick.

"The study found that between 627,800 and 1,479,200 "excess" cases of gastrointestinal illness occur at the beaches each year. That is beyond the number that would normally be expected.

Gastrointestinal illness is most commonly associated with swimming in contaminated water and causes such symptoms as stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. "

Ewww! Yuck!

Watching people throw trash into the ocean or sand as they are packing their stuff up and leaving. They just let their cups and bottles blow around the beach cause they don't care. (like in Revere Beach, MA )

Also.. going close to a boardwalk area where people like to smoke and then throw their still burning butts onto the sand below where people are walking barefoot! (like at Daytona Beach, FL)

When people are getting ready to leave and they shake our their beach blankets to send sand riding the wind right into your eyes and all over your stuff.

I love going to the beach, but the biggest enemy at the beach is dehydration and sunburn. Both are easily preventable, of course, but if you forget water or sunblock you will have hell in the morning!

The gross polluted water, the sand and the sun. The freaking birds that are always hanging out waiting to eat your food. Oh and all the people!

Either wearing a bathing suit in public (my kid left with a bunch of stretch marks) or getting sand in the suit.
