It might depend, I know of someone who had hundreds of thousands of dollars in credit card debt, and the wife's name was not on the cards,..she was not responsible for the debt.

Maybe..maybe not. I was/have been divorced to my ex for nearly 13 years and still his bad debts, in his name only, even AFTER we were divorced, keep popping up on my credit report and I have to fight with the credit reporting agency every time.

Worse yet, if you have any joint/debt or property, there is no disputing...he can file bankruptcy and you could end up fully, legally, liable, for a house you have not lived in for over a dozen year. Be very careful of what you sign and see a reputable attorney with any doubt ASAP!

If the cards are in his name only, it should not affect your credit. But if you have anything that's in your name together like a house or anything else. When they pull the reports, his bad credit will affect you both be able to get something together.

Edwards on the ball with this one. Marital debt and the creditors have every right to report on both credit histories.

No, legally it is all community property. My roomate had his credit all screwed by his ex wife and she was never on his accounts. Most of them he had before they were even married. I would talk to your husband about his spending problems. A person's credit says a lot about them.

yes, it will effect yours also....and NO, that will not help....and what caused his debt? did you have anything to do with it...meaning, clothes, car, food, house, anything that was for your benefit as well as his?
