I agree. They could do away with income tax all together because they could make billions if they let the Cigarette manufactures get involved and charge out the butt for joints. I personally wouldn't' smoke it but I certainly wouldn't complain about not having to pay income tax anymore. I'm all about voluntary taxation.

But don't just stop there...legalize gambling all across America. I don't gamble so again I wouldn't have to worry about it. Let someone else voluntarily pay my taxes.

I will start this by saying that I am all for legalizing pot.

But it won't solve the problem. The politicians will see this new revenue as a windfall, to be spent on more programs, pay increases, whatever. The money would not go to paying off national debt.

But I do support the legalization of pot. I don't smoke it (I don't even smoke cigarettes anymore) but imagine how much prison space would be freed up. Plus, I live in tobacco country in VA and we have lost our cash crop. Our farmers could grow pot. As it is, if there was a greater market for hemp, that would be an exellent crop.

But to answer the question, no.

Pot will NEVER be legal. The owners of the jails have too big of a lobby and yes many are privately owned. Do some research on who profits from all these prisoners and you will see the plan. America has more people in jail per capita that anyone else in the world...it a about the MONEY.

Man, you are talking a lot of weed there. The money made would be spent on medical costs, job loss, counseling, etc. Just like with the Lottery. A ton of money from the lottery goes towards helping the gamblers.

No. If the government Legalized Marijuana, more people would use it. When people use marijuana, they get lazy and unproductive. This would lead to a decrease in productivity across the labor market, therefore actually DECREASING overall tax revenues to the government. Marijuana use long term will dramatically increase your likelihood of becoming/staying poor. Great Question!

It won't "get rid" of our national debt, but it would certainly help. And this is only if it is legalized and distributed by the government OR legalized and "sin-taxed" heavily, like cigarettes and alcohol.

The national debt is much more complex (and much bigger) than "just legalizing dope" Please....that is a little ridiculous...there is hardly enough dope in the world to fix our deficit
