It is quite overwhelming. Most stores are specialty stores (i.e. men's clothing, women's clothing, jewelry, hats, etc.). In Paris the prices vary depending on where you go and what you're looking for. Expect to pay a lot of money for 'designer' clothing and accessories, such as Gucci, etc. There are clothing chains, such as Mim and Pimkie (think American Eagle meets Gadzooks), that have prices similar to those one would find in an American mall.

Yes, shopped there.
It is very expensive, but it depends what you are shopping for.
There are huge department stores, like Galeries Lafayette full of designer and well known brands. There are also small boutiques - lots of them. The prices really vary, but in general they are higher than the USA. We are still the cheapest country to shop in the western world. That does not include Eastern Europe - it is quite cheap there.
I found it confusing, since everything is arranged by color, not style. It was hard to find things that cought my eye in the displays.
Also in the summer time there are sales, which bring the absurd amounts of people to the city. It's hard to get through the crowds. Also - no air conditioning in most stores, so shopping becomes a torture when it gets hot outside.
All in all - it's nice to shop while on vacation, but make sure you have comfortable shoes, a hand held fan and lots of time.

Yeah..i've shopped there and its really FABULOUS! The thing with prices is that most people would say " 5 euro versus 6 dollers...its cheaper!" Most people just assume foreign money is worth less than a US dollar. But in truth, 1 euro is average $1.25 on most days, and can sometimes go up to $1.50. But once you figure out the money trade off, I didnt think the prices were that bad. Its just like in the US....shop clearance and sales!

I absolutely LOVE shopping in Paris. Make sure you save up a lot of money...especially since the American dollar is worth less over there as of now (or at least the last time I checked). It is very expensive and fabulous, but a great experience....
