Sounds like you have a very small cage. You will have to change the bedding every day or every other day. Remember, your pig is basically living in his bathroom. He relys on YOU to make sure he is kept clean and healthy.

clean the cage. empty out all the soiled bedding and clean the cage with an enzyme based substance that is safe for use around animals. guinea pigs tend to get messy so you need to clean the cage at least once a week. just because the bedding is absorbent doesn't mean that it can stop odors completely, especially if you don't clean it because the bedding fibers can only absorb so much. after you clean the cage if your guinea pig still stinks give him a bath, just make sure you don't drown him and that the shampoo is safe for him. also, make sure you keep him warm until he dries so he doesn't get sick. i know petsmart carries shampoo for them, and i think they also have a spray-on shampoo that you just brush into their fur. anyway, try to take better care of your guinea pig because they can get sick from the filth, as can your family.

Male guinea pigs naturally have a stronger smell to them, like male cats. Even if you keep it really clean, it can be smelly. Your cage is probably too small if you clean it often and it still stinks. I used big 36-48 inch storage bins for cages and decorated them to make them less tacky (using stencils). I kept the bedding right next to the cage to make it easy to scoop the cage every night. The only part that needed to be cleaned daily was under his igloo, where he spend most of his time. The litter that works best for me is hardwood stove pellets. It's cheap ($5-$6 for 30lbs), absorbant, and doesn't have the toxins that pine/ceder has. Yesterday's News works but is expensive. I also used shredded newspaper and hay to make a comfy nest because the pellets weren't too comfy. Under the bedding you can use a layer of newspaper and baking soda. I use guinea pig food with yucca added or sprinkle yucca tabs over the food and it GREATLY reduces urine odor and is good for them. I also give them a quarter tab of chewable 100mg vit.C daily to prevent scurvy. For a quick freshener, I used raspberry dog perfume because I figured it was safe and guinea pigs probably don't mind the smell of fruit!

Care fresh bedding...clean out the cage and scrub it with soap and water, allow to dry before you put bedding in it. Put in at least a good five to six inches of bedding. He may be peeing alot and not have enough bedding to absorb his urine. Change the cage every two to three days and repeat scrub and same amount of litter. If this doesn't work, see a vet, Louis may be ill.

you need to change the bedding often. How big is the cage, compared to him? If he has a small area, and you only change it 1x per week, he will have peed all over it, laid in it, etc. Imagine if you only had 4 pieces of toilet tissue to use for 1 week !! Just because the stuff is deodorized, doesn't mean it will dry up all of the pee!.
Change the bedding every 2 days.

you might need to change it every day. I have to change my rabbits litter box everyday and wash it out with pine sol to keep the odors down. You might try this but make sure you rinse it out very well so it don't hurt the "pig"
