No. It would take an act of congress to reinstate the draft, and what do you think the odds of getting that group to agree to anything but pay raises for themselves? Besides, DESPITE what the media likes to report, all of the Armed Forces, except the Army, has met or exceeded their recruitment goals. On top of that, reenlistment is at a high point as well. The people that are in the military tend to stay in, or, get into the reserves...

It would be the quickest way to completely tear this country apart. The only scenario I can imagine for re-instating the draft is a major attack on the US - like losing LA or NYC (not another 9/11 type attack). Even then, there would have to be a country or group claiming responsibility that people would be mad enough to want to hit back. However, in that case, the military would probably have to turn away volunteers anyway so a draft still wouldn't be necessary. I don't think there will be one.

You were told wrong. There is more interest in taking "In God we trust" off of our money than there is in reinstituting the draft. That's not to say that they don't get picky on enforcing the selective service registration from time to time. So they could if they needed to, but there not only are no plans to reinstate the draft, there is no need to--Americans are filling the recruitment quotas, though there was a lull in enlistments for a while.

Well, indirectly, possibly. With the interest hike of education loans, fewer people will be able to either be motivated to spend more money in college, or be able to pay college off very well. The government's excuse for this hike was to help fund the country's deficit... from war. When you're a college grauate with a ton of accrued interest on your loans, and you're getting offered education compensation to join the army (sometimes full eduacation benifits), your going to be very tempted. Not to mention, if the media keeps up these reports on "terrorist scares" a surpirisingly large number of "frighteningly" raging young adults will certainly be willing to "service their nation and 'it's war on terrorism' ". They haven't had any problems finding soldiers yet, what makes anyone think they will?

quite a few Democrats tossed out the concept with the objective of it being, if a draft is in position, then a president is purely no longer so speedy to start up a warfare... I kinda imagine it is the alternative, good day, better squaddies! together, political toddlers may be subjected to the prospect of serving a excursion of duty, so as which could be a minor think again, yet quite quite undesirable concept. very few democrat attempting to make one very last stand before workplace is over.

Don't know whether it is true or not. But it would appear that if the U.S. gets mired in any more actions that it will be necessary. They are stretched to the limit, we are told, and one should keep in mind that a lot of the military in action now are from the National Guard.

The Pentagon has reported that all of the services are under staffed and enlistments are down in spite of beef up recruitment campaigns.

Just observations from what I hear and read in the media.

NO... NO ..NO. There is a democrat (read again) in congress that filed a motion to reinstate the draft as a protest against the war in Iraq.
