Contractions that come in a fairly steady pattern and get closer together as time goes on. They are also strong and get stronger as time goes on. The will last longer as time goes on. Eventually the mother will have to concentrate to get through them and probably can't talk through them. If the mother is having contractions that last for about a minute each, coming every five minutes for about an hour, then you should call your caregiver. (Another good idea is to drink a glass of water and lay down to see if they stop.)

Sometimes the water breaks at the onset of labor, other times it doesn't break for a long time. Water can stay intact up until the birth sometimes.

Losing the mucous plug is NOT necessarily a sign of labor starting. It can happen in little bits over several days or all at once. It can also grow back after you lose it, (It looks kind of like blood-tinged snot.) Having sex or having a vaginal exam can also cause some discharge and even a little bit of light bleeding afterwards as well.

The mother may also feel increased pelvic pressure as the baby moves down into the birth canal.

Nesting isn't a sign of labor, just a sign of impending motherhood.

The others you mentioned are the big ones. But also:

Extreme back pain (back labor)
Woman feels she has to pass a stool (2nd stage labor)
A slow trickle of water (water isn't breaking, just leaking slowly)
Cervical changes, dialation
Lightening - mom can breathe again! Baby settles deeper into the pelvis. Others may notice a difference in mom's appearance. More frequent trips to the bathroom due to increased pressure on bladder.

contractions sometimes come after the water breaks but they are really bad cramps that take over your whole body!

spotting, streaking, heavier discharge...at 36 weeks it may just be Braxton-Hicks, have her walk around and if they get closer or stronger I'd head to the hospital. Usually Braxton-Hicks will go away....I had the same problem when i was pregnant with my son.
