Well I think the biggest problem of it all is that people think they're supposed to listen to something because someone tells them and so they do.
This is the only reason that the Pop Music Scene is in the state it is currently.
None of these POP-Stars like Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, Rihanna, or Shakira are actually any good or very creative, they just are promoted well by Top Promoters who know how to make $$.
Therefore people think they're popular and listen to them not bothering to really go out and see what real music is out there.
I am actually under the firm belief that the top 40 is Created not Earned. People son't earn their way into the top spots of the top 40 list - they are paid for and placed there to sell records.

I think that the reason people stereotype music is so that they can manage to understand it better because their small minds cant comprehend that there are so many different ranges of music so people come up with labels like, goth, punk, emo, rap, ganster..and all that crap just so they can have a better understanding..when there is really nothing to understand, music is simply music..in all forms that speaks to us through our souls. And the kinds of bands and artists that label themselves are just out there to make money and are trying to target those types of kids that are exsisting within the crowd trying to follow the crowd adn acting like something they are not just to fit in.
thats my theory

you know what, as a music lover i hate that people separate music by race. rock = white, rap = black, country = redneck, and whatever else.
personally i am a black girl who loves hip hop and r&b. yet at the same time i absolutely love rock music! i'm tired of these stereotypes that separate us. music should bring us together with words and melodies.
and why do people call white rappers like eminem a wigger. they just doin their thing and people should respect that. and kevin federline... okay he sucks. but you get my point. ;)

because to me music defines who you are in a way..like i mean think about it
Preps= whats on the radio
**Hardcore Kids/Indie kids= bands youve never heard of
Goth= very scary violent music
basically i mean music is as independant as the pple who listin to it,so it defines who you are i mean in a way its good but other ways not so good..i mean i love the scene that im in and i thank God for the music that he gave to us..haha
