I don't necessarily think religion was formed for that reason, but I think in many cases it's turned into that. What's sad is that a lot of people in a lot of different religions tend to fixate on the surface of their religion and don't ever get to the point where they truly understand what they're following. I don't think religion is inherently evil. I do think that people miss the point most the time and delve further into egoism and narcisism rather than humilty and growth.
I do believe their is one true God, but I think I don't think it's a God we could ever completely comprehend. I don't think it's bad to search for that one answer, but to put our notions into absolutist terms is dangerous. We don't completely know and we cannot completely know God. If it were otherwise, we would be at equal level to God, which is impossible by the very definition of God. We can experience God, but we are not God.

I believe there is only one God. I believe He is infinite and eternal. Your question reveals what might be a muddied knowledge of world religion and the history thereof, it would take far too much time and space for me to give as detailed answer as I'd like to your question. The difficulties arise in defining what you mean when you ask what if only one religion is "right". I agree it's important to live a good life and try to be "moral and ethical", but whose morals? Whose ethics? What if we screw up? I believe that this One God is infinitely merciful.

I do, I believe that there is only one true god. But he does not control our actions, he simply is there for a guide, not to where we go but where we end up, I am not a firm believer in fate, the one part of fate I truely believe in is that certian people were "meant" to meet, because I have someone in my life currently, it seems as if we've known each other all our lives, and it's only been about a month it's so weird and amazing. God is in the elements of the church and the religous features, for me he lives within the idols of Mary, ect. ect. beliefs are what you hold, not what someone else but that was a very good question

I am a Christian and I believe that Jehovah, Yahweh,, Christ - Which ever name you like to use- is the Only true God. We will all answer to Him when we die. And depending on whether or not you believed He was God in your life you'll either go to Heaven or Hell. If someone lives a good life that's great, but If that good person did not make a comittment to God and recieve salvation, then that person will go to Hell.

I believe without a shadow of doubt that there is one true god, and that god has a name.
I base all my beliefs on hard evidence and am not a person who would ever take a 'leap' of faith.

A great question! I agree with what you say, I believe there is one true God but that he has many names, Allah, Jesus, Yahweh, so many others! It is not correct to thing that your faith is the only one that is correct, that all others will be in hell because they don't believe what you believe.

I believe there is only One true God, but many paths to Him. I also believe kindness is one of those paths. It'll get you there as sure as counting beads or praying on rugs or speaking in tongues. God bless you on your path.
