The amount of heat in your environment is directly related to the jet stream; from which direction it is coming from and the direction it takes as it reaches the point at which you are at.

Typically you will find a curving jet stream which allows heating and cooling of the air as it moves around the earth. The recent path over the United States (assuming this is where you are located) has been much straighter. Jetstream direction is caused by high and low pressure areas which create storms and temperature differential through regular weather patterns.

One thing that has been noticeable in the middle eastern parts of the country over the last three years is the extremes the weather has been taking. It only makes sense that the trapped heat due to "global warming" over more densely populated areas will increase or enhance the effect the environment has on weather patterns.

I do however agree that the media does the same with their reporting (enhancing that is...).

Because it is summertime...hot temperatures are completely normal. The media makes it sound like every heat wave is the worst that has ever been, and people seem to have very short term memories to remember what it was *really* like when they were younger. Of course, young people aren't old enough to remember that heat wave (in my area for instance) of 1989-90. Those two years are the hottest I can remember.

It's also interesting how the media is nonchalantly including the southwest US in this latest heatwave. Bah!! It's *always* this hot here this time of year...and this year is not unusual in any way. In fact, our monsoon (rainy) season started early this year, which is a GOOD thing!

Global Warming

Well, it is summer.

The rays of the sun are in a more direct path to earth's surface than they are in the winter (though the sun is closer to the sun in the winter). Therefore, it's gonna be hot. The difference in angle is what makes the seasons.

If this is a "global warming" question, the answer is that the world is not getting hotter becuase of industries, smoking, and cars. Global warming is a media hype.

well... cause its summer. and i dont think its cause of global warming. i live in Knox Tennessee and the highest temp recorded here was in 1954 and its was 105 degrees and today its about 100 degrees, so i say its nothing. people are just freaking out. plus, the world is always changing, and scientists just try to pin point it on something instead of just accepting that there is a force higher than man that controls the world.
