Something strange happened near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in what is now Evenkia, Siberia, at 7:17 a.m. on June 30, 1908. Some kind of super explosion/ disaster....anyone have a clue?

As I recall, the scientists say it was a meteor that exploded due to friction just before impact. It leveled trees in a wide circular area, and all the trunks were splayed radially outward. It also seems to me that there was no impact crater. Based on the estimated energy released by this event, they've estimated the size of the meteor, but I forgot what it was.
I think the Yucatan meteor that extinguished the dinosaurs was estimated at 6 miles in diameter, so the Tunguska one must've been considerably smaller.

A lot of trees were leveled but no crater has been found. A carbonaceous meteor is one possibility for the cause.
