I say he might have had fewer yards. Maybe more touchdowns. A better offensive line might have helped provide better balance for the Lions, allowing for a more effective passing game. Also, Sanders made a lot of long runs on broken plays. I don't think he breaks as many long ones behind a good line. I think his career would have been a lot more like Emmitt Smith's, fewer runs for losses and fewer long runs, but more consistent gains.

For all the clowns that wrote he would have had less yards, you should not be allowed to answer any more questions. He would have been past Emmitt, he was by far the best running back ever (yes, even better than Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Gayle Sayers). I saw a stat on a Monday night game that stated E.Smith made his first move 2.1 yards after the line of scrimmage and Barry made his 1.3 before the line of scrimmage (I don't remember if it was career or just that year) but that is CRAZY

Barry Sanders would have had more if they had built the team around him. I recall a lot of his runs were from the draw play, student body left, student body right, misdirections. The only time they had a decent team was the 1991 team that went to the NFC Title Game. Barry was better in a diversified offense, something that Emmitt had and he won 3 rings and something that I think would have made Walter Payton a better running back

I don't know if would have made much difference with his running style, but he was amazing. I had the privilege of seeing him play twice in college and once in the pros. Highlight reels are one thing, but seeing him run and cut like he did live was unbelievable. And play after play after play, the guy didn't' seem to get tired or hurt. All that beating took it's toll, though. He retired early with seemingly no explanation, but I can understand. The guy had to be in constant pain from all that beating.

He had a decent O-line in Detriot. Better question is,"what could he have done with a line like the Cowboys had?"
A great line could have him past Payton even with him retiring earlier than expected.

I think he definately would have had the cvareer yardage record if he just would have played a few more years. If you add a good offensive line to his ability he would have compiled monster career numbers. He was one of the most gifted athletes of his generation. Its a shame Detroit never gave him good teams to compete for Super Bowls.

That wasn't his running style. He made so many high light reels because he lived to out run every body, not technique blocking like Terrel Davis had with the broncos when he broke 2,000 yds.
