I am 39 weeks 1 day and went to the doctor today. I am 1 centimeter dilated and 75% thinned. She scrapped my membranes when I was there and would like to know what to expect after your membranes were scrapped. Should I start packing or could it still be days and days before anything happens. I have heard people getting them scrapped more than once and leaves me very little high hopes. Please tell me your experience???

Sorry for the confusion, I am packed, I just used that as a figure of speech.

At 39 weeks, I sure hope you're packed!

After my membranes were stripped with my last pregnancy, I had the baby about a week later. Every pregnancy and ever mother is different. Just be alert to the signs of labor. :-)

Congrats on the baby!

If you are 39 weeks you should have had your bags packed before you even went to the doctor. You don't want to have to pack stuff up while you are in labor.

Sometimes stripping the membranes can jumpstart labor, other times it does nothing. If your body and your baby are ready for labor, it might work. If not, it will do nothing. I have heard that having sex after having your membranes stripped can help get things going since it will irritate your cervix more. Plus, semen ripens the cervix and orgasm can bring on contractions.

My OB stripped my membranes with my first (WITHOUT my consent). I was 3-4 cm dilated and 100% effaced when he did it. It still took me a week to go into labor and have him.

Don't get your hopes up....stripping your membranes is ONE technique that doctors use to TRY to get you moving along. It is in NO WAY a guarantee, as I know from experience!! My son was due on December 28th, 2003 and my doctor stripped my membranes about a week before Christmas and I didnt have my son until January 5th, 2004!!!! He was 8 days late!! In some women it works, and in some it doesnt.....dont get your hopes up too high, but dont be discouraged either...it COULD work for you. Either way, you should already have your bags packed just in case!! Good Luck, and I hope it works for you!! =)

no matter what I hope you've got a diaper bag already packed and in the trunk of your car just incase! You never know what's going to happen! I had mine packed two months before my baby was due and it was a good thing because she ended up being 4 weeks early!!!!
