A few questions:

Democracy in Iraq is worth how many American lives?
2,500? 5,000? 10,000? 100,000?

Is it our responsibility to bring them to civilization
OR
Is our responsibility to protect ourselves, neutralize the threat and get out?

After our job is done, will they be able to hang on to civilization without us or will they revert back to civil war / dictatorships?

Was life in Iran better under the Shah or Khomeni et al.?

Is this democracy project keeping us from imposing enough of a threat towards Iran?

Neerdowell:
Well sure. I am trying to make a point, but I'm also interested in hearing counter points and stimulating some thought among people like my brother-in-law who thinks this will all turn out dandy. If someone can show that my point is wrong, I'd gladly capitulate ;)

Palladin:
Now that doesn't make sense, because if what you say is true, we could have easily worked with a general before the war and arrange for him to be our new puppet as soon as the war was won. Then the whole situation would be in-control and in our pocket - My preference actually.

I think you are assuming that America is a democracy, thus your argument is already tragically flawed. You also seem to forget that the USA installed Hussein as a dictator because he was a CIA asset at he time. The USA doesn't like democracies because they don't do as they are told....history shows that lesson in spades.

The reason America is fighting in Iraq isn't for democracy and it isn't self-preservation (as there were no elements in Iraq capable of doing the USA harm). It is all about money and corporate greed (ie. Halliburton et al.)

From the gist of your questions I sense that you aren't really interested in answers so much as to make a point. I don't necessarily disagree with your point, but you are doing something that really annoys me when Republican shills do it, you know the type of questions that go "why do Democrats always whine?" or "why do opponents of our president want to cut and run?" it just sounds arrogant and condescending.
