It was featured several years ago in the Oprah magazine, and is about penpals, one a Jewish girl, one American. They met on a beach, I believe somewhere in the Middle East, and continued their correspondence for many years.

I've looked all over Oprah's page with no luck of finding it. Have you thought about going to a local library to look at back issues of "O" magazine? Below I put the link to the part of her website that lists books (book club books and books from the magazine).

I also found a book on Amazon that might be what you're looking for, but it's about boys, not girls. It's called _Pen Pals: What It Means to Be Jewish in Israel and America _ (that's the second link). I've also listed a few links to books that might lead you in the right direction.

Good luck on your hunt!
