I also have the Panda antivirus and antispy2005. The subscription deal is quite low cost-- its a benefit. Roxio suite7, Adobe photoshop elements2, MS office, system mechanics 2005, power dvd; these are the essentials software even on my desktop. hard drive on laptops that are more than 40 gigs is a waste, no matter what people say. If you happen to have a 60 gigs, make new partition using Partition Magic. Sooner or later you should invest in a little external hard drive (check out tigerdirect.com) for your laptop definitely can be used as main pc at home (I do this) Backup images of your precious laptop hard drive can be saved in the external and all of your work and massive junk and music and photos-- totally safe in the external hard drive. I think that external hard drives lasts years longer than the laptops hd. oh and I have one Nancy Drews mystery game on my laptop. dont overstuff your laptop with too much software because windows xp has its mysteries-- even to the experts. Take some time learning to backup your laptop hd including the os; there are many good and reliable backup/ hard drive copy software out there. I dont know how reliable and safe the built-in wifi on my laptop; but I switched over to aftermarket wifi product called netgear. That's much better. oh and printer and scanner is a must; keep them attached to your precious laptop. Desktop pc is too much clutter.

Hey what are you using the laptop for.
Guys sometimes use it as servers too.
Well I have linux running on it. I have about 30 gb. I use openoffice, run web servers , do testing and the like
If you really want to use Windows, load Microsoft Office essentially, or the OpenOffice.
You can then download lots of goodies to learn new languages and things like that (c/c++,java,python)
