Advertising, start early in the morning, and make sure all of your items are clearly priced. You should start high, only because people will haggle the price down anyway. Just guess how much you would pay for something, and add a dollar or two. Throughout the day you can go around and mark down your prices if things aren't selling.

Also make sure people can see all of your items. Lay them out on tables (make sure you mark your tables "table not for sale") neatly. You can also serve free coffee or some kind of beverage. People will end up browsing longer while they drink, and will more than likely buy more. Our garage sale made over $500, so these tips should help you.

Put your sale in the paper and put up signs. You can use a couple ladders and a shower curtain rod or a random metal pole that you have lying around for a clothes rack. If you want to spend money, you can rent one at a rental store. Also, you can let your neighbors know you are having a sale and see if they also want to. The more sales in one area, the more people. Good luck!

Can't help you on the "successful garage sale " thing that is a coin toss in any market but-----that clothes rack thing----

Take a length of galvanized pipe and run a very strong rope through it with enough left on either end to tie off on something very strong (doesn't take many clothes to get very heavy) ta da
instant (almost) clothesrack !!!

Hi,

I have attached a piece of rope, (clothes line) to each end of a broom or mop and then attach the other end of the rope to hooks in the rafters of the garage ceiling. It swings a little but is a good inexpensive temporary way to display your clothes. If you want to lessen the swing, put two ropes on each end of the broom handle and run them up to two hooks for each end. In other words make a triangle with the ropes.

If you have a piece of pipe or something like it that is longer, that works fine too.

Good Luck'

Bob

You have to spend money to make money. Pay the small fee to run the ad in the paper. If possible, splurge on the big, bold type and maybe a flashy color. Wal-Mart has clothing racks. And they are easier than the 55-ft-high ones at the laundrymat. They cannot cost too much.

Make sure you can see the signs and give people time to turn. Put balloons on your signs and a large arrow and put them at every turn from the major road.
And, ya, don't be too sticky on the price. People like to barter at garage sales. But don't give stuff away either. If it's priced too low people will be suspicious. Relax and have a good time. When people are relaxed and having a good time we are more likely to buy your junk. :-)

Lots of advertising. Try looking for stores going out of business, sometimes they sell or give away things like that. I got a bunch of shelving for free from a store that closed.

Make sure to put prices on everything or you will be hounded by people asking the price of things.

If you really want rid of this stuff do not over price it! As for rods you can use any pipe and put it between 2-step ladders. Put signs out at the end of your drive and at the end of your block signs are very important. Good luck and happy selling.
